GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg reviews road widening proposals (UPDATED)

Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed the officials of the Town Planning Department to prepare proposals for the widening and development of several roads in the Bheemili and West Zones of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. On Monday, he inspected the proposed road widening locations along with Chief City Planner A Prabhakara Rao and Bheemili Zonal Commissioner Vijay Kumar.

The Commissioner examined the proposed road widening stretches in Bheemili Zone. These included: The existing 30-foot-wide road from SOS Junction to Police Station Junction, proposed to be widened to 66 feet for a stretch of 2 kilometres.

He also examined the existing 24-foot-wide road from Bheemili MRO Office Junction to State Bank of India Junction, proposed to be widened to 66 feet over a stretch of 1 kilometre as well as the existing 30-foot-wide road from Bheemili MRO Office Junction via Beach Road to SBI Junction, proposed to be widened to 66 feet over a stretch of 1.5 kilometres. The Commissioner examined the proposed alignment plans and related drawings in detail.

Later, in the West Zone, he inspected the proposed road widening plan from Sadaram Appalanaidu Marg, adjoining the Gopalapatnam Main Road, via Simhachalam Station Road to Kothapalem. 

Commissioner Ketan Garg stated that the existing roads are narrow and frequently experience traffic congestion, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for commuters and residents. He directed Chief City Planner A Prabhakara Rao to obtain public opinion and undertake a well-planned course of action to implement the proposed road widening works without causing undue inconvenience to the public. Among those present during the inspection were Bheemili Zone DCP Venkateswara Rao, Executive Engineer Vasu, West Zone ACP Ramalingeswara Reddy, TPO Gopanna, and other officials.
