RSS Tried Hard to Retain Annamalai, But BJP High Command Refused Key Conditions

Amid growing churn within the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionaries made multiple attempts to persuade K. Annamalai to reconsider his decision to step back, according to sources familiar with the developments.
Sources indicate that the outreach was sustained and involved top-level interlocutors within the Sangh Parivar, reflecting concerns over the potential political fallout of his exit or reduced role in the state. Annamalai, who has emerged as one of the BJP’s most visible faces in Tamil Nadu, is understood to have placed certain conditions during these discussions.
However, the BJP’s central leadership did not agree to all of these demands, leading to a stalemate. While the specifics of the demands remain undisclosed, insiders suggest they pertained to organizational autonomy, leadership structure, and strategic direction in the state.
The episode underscores underlying tensions between the state leadership’s ambitions and the central command’s calibrated approach in Tamil Nadu, a politically sensitive and electorally challenging region for the BJP.
Did Khera’s Open Spat with Himanta Biswa Sarma Open Doors For Him to Rajya Sabha?

Pawan Khera’s high-decibel public spat with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appears to have paid political dividends within the Congress, with the party now sending him to the Rajya Sabha as part of its broader communication push against the BJP.
What began as a pointed exchange between the two leaders quickly drew national attention, with Khera’s aggressive positioning resonating within sections of the Congress leadership looking to sharpen the party’s attack lines. Sources indicate that his performance in taking on a prominent BJP chief minister helped reinforce his utility as a frontline communicator.
Khera’s elevation to the Upper House is being viewed internally as a strategic move. The Congress is seeking to deploy articulate and combative voices in Parliament to directly counter the BJP’s top leadership, particularly on issues of governance, federalism, and political accountability.
His entry into the Rajya Sabha now formalises that role, giving the Congress a sharper edge in high-stakes parliamentary debates and signalling a renewed emphasis on political messaging from within the House.

Delhi Gymkhana Club, the most aspirational club of the country has always stirred discussion, it is of no surprise that government decision to close it has caused a major stir and divide among the people. Amid this ongoing debate over the Government’s decision, Whispers in the Corridors conducted a survey to gauge public opinion asking a simple question “Do you support the Government’s decision to close Delhi Gymkhana Club?” and subsequently to reason.
The survey revealed that nearly 68% of respondents supported the Government’s decision, citing concerns over the use of prime public land, elitism and hereditary membership practices. Respondents pointed out that the club occupies 27.3 acres of prime real estate in Lutyens' Delhi at a nominal annual rent, a figure many described as a “pittance.” Many argued that a valuable government asset should not remain accessible to a select few. “Public resources cannot be used to cater to few elites” remarked one respondent. With national security concerns now citing the proximity to the Prime Minister's new residence, many felt that maintaining the club in its current form was unviable. “National security is supreme.”
Hereditary membership emerged as the second biggest topic. Multiple respondents highlighted what they called the "Green Card" system ,a scheme allowing children of members continued access to club facilities, while ordinary applicants wait decades in queue. “Should this kind of hereditary membership be allowed in today's day and age?” one respondent asked pointedly
At the same time, around 29% of respondents opposed the move, arguing that the 113 year old Delhi Gymkhana Club is a heritage institution that deserves preservation rather than closure and once demolished, cannot be rebuilt. “The Delhi Gymkhana Club should not be closed. Institutions like these are living parts of our national heritage” wrote one participant. Another observed “Closing the Delhi Gymkhana Club would mean erasing a living institution that embodies history, heritage and civic tradition.”
While Some called the club environment friendly “In congested Delhi, full of concrete structures, where pollution is a major issue, we need to continue the open spaces that we have. These are the lungs of Delhi.” Others raised the questions on illegal slums “There are millions of illegal slums and shops across the country which just popped up on prime public land. They are regularised and compensated. Legal leases on the other hand are questioned. It’s all convenience and optics”
A small group of respondents 3% remained undecided, suggesting reforms instead of closure. “It would be better to shift it to a conveniently located place with rationalized and democratic entry rules” one respondent suggested.
The survey painted a picture where a larger group of people are in sync with governments direction while another group is concerned about the historic value of the institution.

India is moving towards ramping up crude oil imports from Venezuela, according to government sources, following high-level discussions between Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The meeting, attended by senior officials from India’s Petroleum Ministry and top executives of state-run energy companies, signals a potential deepening of energy ties between the two countries.
In a statement, Puri highlighted the “long-standing energy partnership” between India and Venezuela, emphasizing strong complementarities. Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves, while India offers significant refining capacity and technical expertise suited to processing heavy crude.
Venezuela has already emerged among India’s top crude suppliers in April and May 2026, indicating a steady revival in trade flows that were previously impacted by geopolitical constraints and sanctions.
Sources indicate that India is now actively exploring avenues to scale up imports further. A technical delegation is expected to visit Venezuela soon to assess operational and commercial feasibility.
Indian firms with existing investments in Venezuelan oil assets are also expected to expand their footprint, aligning with New Delhi’s broader strategy to diversify energy sources and strengthen long-term energy security.
