BJP-CPC Dialogues: Building Bridges in India-China Relations

Public discourse in India has largely been shaped by strong opposition to China and Chinese products, driven by unresolved border tensions and strategic mistrust. Yet, diplomacy often operates beyond public sentiment, and the recent interaction between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) reflects this reality. The visit of a CPC delegation to the BJP headquarters in New Delhi signals a pragmatic approach to managing a complex and consequential bilateral relationship.
While the BJP is ideologically opposed to communism, inter-party dialogue with the CPC is neither unprecedented nor inherently contradictory. Political engagement between ruling parties is a well-established global practice and has been part of India–China interactions since the early 2000s.
Post-2020 Galwan, where trust was tested, this outreach signals recovery. BJP leaders emphasise enhanced communication, aligning with diplomatic revivals after Prime Minister Modi’s 2024 BRICS summit attendance, including air connectivity discussions.
Strategically, these efforts balance rivalry with de-escalation, positioning India as a steady Indo-Pacific player under U.S. alliances. They reflect a thoughtful policy, maintaining borders while pursuing confidence-building.
Looking ahead, such dialogues could yield tangible benefits, like border resolutions and economic cooperation, bridging rhetoric with reality for enduring peace. This phase exemplifies diplomatic maturity, promising a more collaborative future.
Know the Ministers and CMs traveling to Davos'26

Indian leaders are injecting executive muscle into Davos' boardroom diplomacy at the World Economic Forum's 2026 meeting. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis leads a delegation from January 17-24, joined by Telangana's A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh's N Chandrababu Naidu, alongside Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. They pitch state reforms, tech hubs, and green investments to global CEOs, building on last year's Rs 15.7 lakh crore MoUs. This subnational push signals India's collaborative federalism in action

The tenure of ED Director Rahul Navin, a 1993-batch IRS (IT) officer, ends in August 2026. Who will succeed him? Insiders do not rule out the possibility of a further extension, though about half a dozen IPS and IRS officers are the claimants, making this one of the most closely watched appointments of 2026. This time an IPS officer is likely to make it.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan recently urged states to nominate more IPS officers for Central deputation to agencies like CBI, NIA, and CAPFs such as CRPF and BSF, citing persistent vacancies—36 out of 188 reserved DIG/IG posts as of late 2025. Despite 40% of senior IPS posts earmarked as Central Deputation Reserve, states often withhold mid-to-senior officers (SP to IG levels) or withdraw nominations post-selection, hampering cadre management. This move contradicts the Supreme Court's May 23, 2025, order to progressively reduce IPS dominance in CAPFs within two years, upheld after dismissing the Centre's review petition on October 28, 2025. Currently, 20% of DIG and 50% of IG posts in CAPFs are IPS-reserved, stalling promotions for ~13,000 CAPF officers. The tension underscores Centre-state frictions, judicial oversight on service matters, and the push for CAPF autonomy versus operational needs in internal security.

Rahul and West Bengal
He remembers the drubbing he got in Bengal in the past. Reluctant to go there. Kerala has a pattern of voting independent of Rahul Gandhi's influence. DMK is playing it tough in Tamil Nadu. May go with Vijay's TVK. No point in campaigning there without taking a decision.

Assessment reports of the medical colleges to be uploaded on the official website of NMC
Appellant sought for the attested photocopy of the completed standard assessment (form A & B) for recognition of MBBS seats for the AY 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24, submitted by the Principal of the Kanti Devi Medical College Hospital and Research Center Mathura, UP. The appellant stated that the inspectors or assessors of the National Medical Commission physically visit the college campus to prepare the report, after checking whether the medical college has sufficient number of beds, faculty, nurses and infrastructure of hostels, library, lecture halls, playground and hospital. So, the report has all the relevant information crucial for the prospective MBBS students to decide their admission in a particular college. The assessors give their observations to the replies submitted by college authorities and upon preparation of the report, the assessors send one copy to the NMC and one to the College. Based on the observations and recommendations, the NMC decides whether or not to sanction the running of a medical college and grant permission for admissions for the academic year in which assessment is conducted. Hence, the assessment reports are crucial source of information, particularly for aspiring medical students who can verify the infrastructure and faculty of the medical colleges, whether a particular college is fulfilling the prescribed medical education norms or not to and make admission decisions. The Respondent stated that since Under Graduate Medical Board (UGMEB) is not the custodian of the information, the same was sought from concerned Board i.e. Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) and it was intimated that during the said period MARB will not be able to furnish the Assessment Report under NMC Act, 2019. The CIC held that the information sought by the Appellant ought to be disclosed and placed in public domain. In the past that, the CIC has directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to upload infrastructure, faculty and other related information in the form of the assessment reports of the medical colleges on its official website, nmc.org.in, considering the crucial nature of the information.
Comments
Availability of information about the infrastructure and faculty of the colleges helps an aspiring student to compare them to make admission decisions. Information regarding whether a particular college is fulfilling the prescribed education norms or not must be made public as it is essential for every student.
