Amalgamation of RRBs soon, number may come down from 43 to 28

The number of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in the country may go down from 43 to 28 through amalgamation and consolidation. This will be the fourth round as the exercise has taken place thrice earlier. The government has proposed  ‘one state - one RRB’ goal. The Finance ministry has finalized the list of 27 banks spread across 12 states to be merged. Among states/ union territories that will see consolidation of RRBs include Andhra Pradesh (4 RRBs), Uttar Pradesh (3 RRBs), West Bengal (3 RRBs), Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan (2 RRBs each).
