It seems the Modi Government has changed its old pattern and decided to post young officers in key positions. Firstly, he appointed 1990 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Sanjay Malhotra as RBI Governor followed by 1989 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre Sanjay Murty as CAG. And  now appointment of 1988 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre Gyanesh Kumar as CEC and 1989 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre Vivek Joshi as EC and 1987 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre Tuhin Kanta Pandey as SEBI Chief.
