Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSE, organized the highly successful GRIDCON 2025, an International Exhibition and Conference, in association CIGRE India, under the patronage of Ministry of Power, from 9-11 March 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, Delhi. The event attracted over 10,000 visitors, 2,000 delegates, 150 exhibitors, 160 technical papers, and participants from 32 countries. The event was inaugurated by Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, in presence of Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. They were joined by Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, Dr. Konstantin O. Papailiou, President of CIGRE, R K Tyagi, CMD, POWERGRID, and Naveen Srivastava, Director (Operations), POWERGRID. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, visited the event, commending its role in accelerating India’s energy transition. GRIDCON 2025, reinforced India’s commitment to becoming a global leader in sustainable energy. Manohar Lal emphasized the importance of grid connectivity, especially in remote areas like Ladakh, and India’s ambitious renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Naik showcased India’s leadership in the global energy transition. Keynote speaker, Dr. Konstantin O. Papailiou, President of CIGRE, discussed the growing global demand for electricity, predicting that the world will need an additional 20,000-35,000 GW of renewable energy by 2050. Sessions focused on cutting-edge technologies, including offshore transmission, HVDC systems, synchronous condensers, and battery storage. A highlight of GRIDCON 2025 was the Women in Energy session, which brought together over 200 women professionals to discuss strategies for increasing female representation in the energy sector. The Next Generation Network session inspired young engineers, while the CEO Forum facilitated discussions on grid modernization and renewable integration. The exhibition featured innovative solutions from 150 exhibitors, including POWERGRID, Hyosung, Hitachi, Adani, Siemens Energy, and Toshiba, while L&T was the platinum sponsor, Hira was the gold sponsor, and Sicame, Telema, APAR, TAG Corporation were silver sponsors. The Student Innovation Pavilion presented projects from nine startups and 15 student teams. As of 15th January 2025, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 280 Sub-stations and more than 1,79,594 ckm transmission lines and 5,46,461 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of the latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation. and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain an average transmission system availability of more than 99.81%.
