Karnataka: New Cyber Command constituted, headed by DG level officer

The State Government has constituted a new Cyber Command, to be headed by a Director General of Police rank officer, a holistic unit that for the first time brings together various aspects of cyberspace including tackling cybercrimes, cybersecurity, misinformation and disinformation and multi-agency coordination The move comes amidst rising cybercrime cases in the state. Bengaluru accounts for 20% of all cybercrimes registered in megacities in the country. Karnataka has recorded over 52,000 cybercrimes over the last four years, the highest among all southern States. To date, different functions were under various units of the Karnataka State Police and E-Governance Department. Now, even as all the 45 cybercrime police stations in the State will henceforth report to DGP (Cyber Command), the officer will also double up as the Chief Information Security Officer of Karnataka.
