whispers in the corridors
In a significant move toward empowering rural youth and fostering inclusive economic growth, Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement HURL's Flagship Project “SAKSHAM” — a comprehensive skill development program under HURL’s Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiative. The MoU signing ceremony was held at NSDC Headquarters, New Delhi, in the presence of Dr S P Mohanty, Managing Director – HURL, senior officials from NSDC, and representatives from HURL. Project “Saksham” will be executed in the districts of Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Begusarai (Bihar), and Dhanbad (Jharkhand). It has been meticulously designed following a demand-supply skill gap assessment study, carried out in consultation with public and private stakeholders, as well as members of the target communities. The initiative aims to economically empower 2,265 youth, women, and smallholder farmers from low-income families through industry-aligned skill development training and enhanced employability support within the national skilling ecosystem. Key sectors covered under this program include: Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI); Retail; Electronics & IT-ITeS; Agriculture & Basic Computer Literacy; the expected outcomes of Project Saksham include: Increased employment through improved job-readiness; Creation of self-employment opportunities through enhanced vocational skills; Greater access to government schemes and ecosystem linkages for long-term development. Quote from Dr SP Mohanty, MD – HURL: “Project SAKSHAM is not just a training initiative—it’s a mission to equip rural youth, women, and farmers with the skills and confidence to build a better future. Through our collaboration with NSDC, we aim to turn potential into progress and aspiration into achievement. This is how we strengthen communities and contribute meaningfully to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.” This collaboration marks a meaningful stride in HURL’s commitment to nation-building through skill-building, and reaffirms its role as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation in rural India.
