Jammu and Kashmir: Eight JKPS officers to be inducted in IPS soon!

Jammu and Kashmir segment of AGMUT cadre has reportedly eight vacancies for induction into IPS from JKPS. Five vacancies have been determined for the Select List 2021, two for 2023 and one for 2024. The Police administration has set the process in motion for induction of Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) officers. However, the JKPS officers giving consent for induction into IPS will only be considered for the cadre enhancement process. Police authorities have also sought clearance from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Once all formalities for the induction of eight JKPS officers into IPS are completed, the authorities will seek a meeting with Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). In July 2021, 14 JKPS officers were inducted into IPS while in July 2023, 31 JKPS officers were given IPS cadre. Forty four vacancies had arisen as no inductions of JKPS officers into IPS took place from 2010 to 2021 due to legal disputes. In 2021, the Parliament passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2021 to merge Jammu and Kashmir cadre of All India Service (IAS, IPS and IFoS) with the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territory) cadre.
