Update about the 8th Pay Commission

Union MoS Finance Pankaj Chaudhary has informed the Rajya Sabha that The Government has confirmed its decision to constitute the Eighth Central Pay Commission (8th CPC), but the official notification for its formation is yet to be issued. In response to an unstarred question Javed Ali Khan, the Minister informed, inputs for the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th CPC were sought from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel & Training, as well as all State Governments, through communications dated January 17, 2025, and February 17, 2025. The Government clarified that the inputs are still being received from these Ministries, Departments, and States, and that the notification will be issued in due course. The timeline for appointing the Chairperson and Members of the Commission will be determined after the notification is issued. Once constituted, the 8th CPC will be responsible for reviewing the pay, allowances, and pension structure of Central Government employees and pensioners, a process typically undertaken every ten years.
