whispers in the corridors

IPS Vikas Sahay of 1989-batch, serving as current DGP Gujarat, had his tenure extended until December 31, 2025. His retirement was due on June 30, 2025. No further extension is expected, according to government sources.
Recent reports indicate that Dr. K. L. N. Rao (1992-batch IPS officer and current DG, CID Crime & Railways) is actively positioning himself as the top contender for the role. Earlier in June 2025, he was identified as the front-runner when a list of five senior IPS officers was sent to the Centre for the position.
G. S. Malik (current Ahmedabad Police Commissioner) was noted as a close second earlier, but recent updates suggest he may be eyed for a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) role if he doesn’t secure the Gujarat post. No official announcement has been made as of now but the process is expected to conclude soon due to the impending vacancy.
