Govt Lauds PSU Banks’ Strong Performance, To Meet PSBs On Next-Gen Reforms

The government is pleased with the strong performance of public sector banks, whose earnings have outpaced those of private lenders. Building on this momentum, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) has scheduled a meeting with PSBs on February 13–14 to discuss next-generation banking reforms. The DFS Secretary will review the financial performance of banks and seek their inputs on key reform measures. Discussions are likely to cover credit growth, deposit mobilisation, and the expansion of digital infrastructure. Progress under key government flagship schemes will also be assessed. The meeting underscores the government’s confidence in PSBs’ sustained turnaround and its focus on strengthening the sector’s role in driving inclusive economic growth.
