PM inaugurates POWERGRID Transmission Projects worth over ₹3,600 Cr in Rajasthan (UPDATED)

Narendra Modi, PM inaugurated two major transmission infrastructure projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under Ministry of Power, in Rajasthan. With a combined investment of over ₹3,600 crore, these projects include the “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part-B1,” comprising the 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III substation and the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-III–Sikar-II transmission line and the “Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II Part-E,” comprising the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-II–Sikar-II second transmission line.

These strategic transmission systems have been developed to facilitate large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from the Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan, particularly from the Bhadla region, which hosts one of the world’s largest solar parks with a capacity exceeding 2.2 GW. The projects further reinforce POWERGRID’s pivotal role in building a robust, future-ready national transmission network that underpins the country’s rapidly expanding renewable energy ecosystem and long-term economic growth.

As of 15th February 2026, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 290 Sub-Stations and more than 1,84,370 ckm transmission lines and 6,02,016 MVA of transformation capacity across the Nation. With the adoption of the latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain an average transmission system availability of more than 99.84%.
