A Century of Valour: IPS Assn Honours Pioneer H.M. Joshi on His 100th Birthday

In a poignant tribute to a life etched in courage and selfless duty, the Madhya Pradesh IPS Association celebrated the 100th birthday of retired Director General of Police (DGP) Harivallabh Mohanlal Joshi at the Police Officers’ Mess here. The nonagenarian, from India’s inaugural 1948 IPS batch, received a hero’s welcome amid garlands, shawls, and thunderous applause from serving and retired officers.

Current DGP Kailash Makwana, lauding Joshi’s legacy, called it “an inspirational chapter in Madhya Pradesh Police history.” He hailed Joshi’s visionary crackdown on dacoits in Chambal and Bundelkhand, where orchestrated operations neutralized notorious gangs, surrendered outlaws, and ushered peace to terror-stricken villages. “His leadership embodied the Gita’s ethos—duty as divine worship, without expectation,” Makwana said.

A documentary chronicling Joshi’s administrative prowess and anti-crime exploits screened to rapt attention. Probationary IPS officer and ASP Ujjain, Kajal Singh, from the 2024 batch, presented a floral bouquet, symbolising generational continuity. Fellow veterans Arun Gurtu, M. Natarajan, ML Jain, DP Khanna and HS Soni shared anecdotes of Joshi’s unyielding integrity.

In a stirring address, the centenarian urged officers: “Serve society with honesty and devotion; duty is our highest dharma.”

Association President and Addl DGP Chanchal Shekhar termed the milestone “a rare triumph of disciplined living and purpose.”

As golden balloons floated under chandeliers, the event reaffirmed Joshi’s enduring flame—guiding Madhya Pradesh’s guardians of law into the future.
