whispers in the corridors
NLC India Limited (NLCIL) marked the celebration of National Safety Month 2026 at its Corporate Office on March 7, 2026. The observance forms part of the nationwide initiative that begins on March 4 each year, commemorating the Foundation Day of the National Safety Council. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Engage, Educate and Empower People to Enhance Safety,” underscores the importance of collective responsibility in promoting a strong safety culture.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the Safety Flag by the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) at the Corporate Office lawn, symbolizing the organization’s steadfast commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental protection across all operations of NLCIL. Hemant Kumar, Executive Director (Safety), delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance of continuous safety awareness and employee participation in maintaining a safe working environment.
As part of the observance, all employees took the Safety Pledge reaffirming their dedication to safety in the workplace and in daily life. The pledge was administered in three languages to ensure wider engagement: in Tamil by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), in Hindi by the Director (Mines), and in English by the CMD.
In his presidential address, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, emphasized the importance of proactive safety practices, employee awareness, and adherence to established safety protocols. He reiterated NLCIL’s commitment to strengthening safety culture through sustained engagement, education, and empowerment of employees.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. M. Subramanian, Chief General Manager, Corporate Safety.
To further extend safety awareness beyond the workplace, a Two-Wheeler Road Safety Rally was organized from the Corporate Office to the New Services Unit (NSU) in Neyveli Township. Around 120 participants joined the rally to promote the importance of wearing helmets and adhering to traffic rules while riding two-wheelers.
The rally aimed to remind both employees and the general public about the critical role of responsible driving in preventing road accidents within the township. The participants were received by the Mine-I team at the B-Point Gate.
As part of the public awareness campaign, pamphlets highlighting key road safety measures were distributed to the public through a campaign vehicle moving across the township.
The overall programme was successfully organized and coordinated by the Corporate Safety Department with the support of various departments including Mines, Thermal, Technical Advisory (TA), Corporate HR, Corporate Communications, Telecommunications, NLCIL Security Department, and the New Services Unit.
Through these initiatives, NLC India Limited reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of safety, not only within its workforce but also among the wider community.
