From conflict to co-existence: IFS Padma on human–elephant interaction
Human–Elephant interaction has always been dangerous due to increasing overlap between human settlements and elephant habitats. As forests shrink and resources become scarce, encounters become more frequent. Dharmapuri Forest Circle in Tamil Nadu also faced the same, leading to human-elephant injuries, loss of life, and property damage. Understanding this, 2008 batch Chief Conservator of Forests, Dharmapuri Circle, C H Padma switched into action mode along with her team to identify conflict causes and promote coexistence and safety strategies.
