The 60th Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Training Programme on “Towards Sustainable Urban Mobility in Developing Urban Context”, sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, was successfully conducted by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd at its HSMI Hostel, AGVC campus, from 11th to 23rd March 2026.

The two-week capacity-building programme brought together 22 international participants representing 17 ITEC partner countries, including Botswana, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

Sanjay Kulshrestha, CMD, HUDCO during his address highlighted that the programme served as a dynamic platform for experience sharing among participants from diverse geographies. He emphasized that the exchange of best practices, comparative analysis of mobility challenges, and discussions on innovative solutions significantly enriched the learning process. The programme also strengthened participants’ capacities to contextualize and implement sustainable mobility strategies in their respective countries.

The valedictory function marked the culmination of an intensive learning experience comprising academic sessions, field visits, and cross-country knowledge exchange, enabling participants to deepen their understanding of sustainable urban mobility and its practical applications in developing urban contexts.

The course curriculum offered a comprehensive overview of sustainable urban mobility, covering critical themes such as land-use integration, public transport systems, electric vehicle transition, road safety, inclusivity, institutional mechanisms, and emerging smart mobility solutions. Participants also gained first-hand exposure to India’s pioneering Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), where officials provided detailed insights into its operational framework, technological features, and its transformative impact on regional connectivity and urban transit efficiency.

Designed as a holistic and forward-looking initiative, the programme successfully integrated planning, technology, governance, and people-centric approaches, thereby contributing to a cohesive understanding of modern urban mobility paradigms

The ITEC programme continues to play a vital role in strengthening international partnerships by facilitating knowledge exchange and capacity building among developing nations. By equipping global practitioners with practical insights and policy perspectives, ITEC not only enhances technical competencies but also fosters long-term collaboration and mutual growth. Such initiatives underscore India’s commitment to supporting sustainable development worldwide and advancing resilient, inclusive, and future-ready urban systems across partner countries.
