whispers in the corridors

Thrissur’s former District Collector IAS Arjun Pandian turned governance into a moving spectacle of sweat and solidarity. The 2017-batch officer, a Kilimanjaro and Elbrus summiteer and former Best Athlete at LBSNAA was often seen participating in activities himself. From swimming with children at Ayyanthole Pond to cycling across the city and kayaking at Enamavu, he made fitness a visible part of everyday life and led by example.

One of the key initiatives during this period was the Thrissur Cultural Capital Marathon (2025 and 2026) which saw participation from over 3,500 people across categories. It encouraged people of all ages to take up fitness while also promoting tourism and drug-free active lifestyle.
Alongside this, monthly Run with the Collector (Oodam Collectorodoppam) were organised in various parts of the district drawing students, women, elderly and even differently abled residents. These events also served people to directly interact with the administration, building trust and making them more approachable.

Transforming fitness into a people’s movement, his other efforts included thematic events for Environment Day, Youth Day, Independence Eve and others. Additionally Pandian used sports to address ground reality governance. He conducted cyclothons to examine district roads and celebrated Thrissur Pooram 2025 festival by cycling 34 km across 11 participant temples. His initiatives also carried deep social messages like the 80-km Coastal Cyclothon promoted a "Drug-Free Thrissur," while the "Swim for Life" campaign taught children swimming as a life skill and he himself participated in traditional Onam boat races to inspire local athletes.
Apart from events, under the “Get Set Thrissur” initiative, he strengthened grassroots sports infrastructure by distributing ₹18.10 lakh worth of sports kits to schools and upgrading playgrounds. To promote elite athletes representing the state and country the administration also actively sought corporate sponsorships. These collective efforts contributed to Thrissur securing second place in the State School Sports Championship.
He also looked inward to take care of administration health via Get Set Civil Station providing post-office-hour exercise classes for government personnel.
Recently transferred to Kasargod as Collector, looking ahead Pandian has indicated that his focus will remain on strengthening foundational sectors like health and education while continuing initiatives such as student engagement and sports development based on district specific needs.
Promoting health as true wealth, his impactful leadership and multifaceted messages continues to echo, inspiring change not through orders but through action.
