RBI Elevates Gunveer Singh as Executive Director, Entrusts Him with Critical Operations of Payment and Settlement Systems Oversight

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Gunveer Singh as Executive Director (ED), with effect from May 18, marking a key leadership transition within the central bank’s payments architecture. Prior to this elevation, Singh was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems (DPSS).

In his new role as Executive Director, Singh will continue to oversee the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, which is critical to the regulation, supervision, and development of India’s rapidly expanding digital payments ecosystem. His appointment comes at a time when the RBI is intensifying its focus on strengthening payment infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity frameworks, and promoting innovation in digital transactions.

Singh brings with him extensive experience in payment systems, financial market infrastructure, and regulatory oversight, having played a pivotal role in shaping policies around digital payments and settlement mechanisms during his tenure at the central bank.
