TMC in Turmoil: Rebel MPs’ Delhi Huddle Signals Deep Crisis (UPDATED)

Nearly 20 of Trinamool Congress’s 28 Lok Sabha MPs were reportedly holed up at an undisclosed Delhi location on June 8, 2026, as party chief Mamata Banerjee and nephew Abhishek Banerjee attended an INDIA bloc meeting. Rebels are considering two options: petitioning Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to form a separate bloc, stripping Abhishek of his parliamentary party leader role, or mass resignation. Veteran Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy resigned the same day, citing corruption and dynastic control.

This marks the gravest internal challenge to Mamata’s authority after the Assembly defeat and 58-MLA rebellion. Discontent over Abhishek’s influence threatens TMC’s national standing, INDIA unity, and invites BJP defections ahead of 2029. A formal split could reshape West Bengal politics and weaken regional opposition voices ahead of 2029. The coming hours will be critical as meetings continue and legal battles loom.
