Over 1.1 crore beneficiaries in line for 8th Pay Commission overhaul

The 8th Central Pay Commission is expected to affect more than 1.1 crore beneficiaries, including central government employees, pensioners and their families. Pay commissions are generally constituted every 10 years to review and revise government pay structures in line with changing economic conditions and administrative requirements. India has witnessed seven pay commissions so far. The First Pay Commission was constituted in January 1946, and the 8th Pay Commission will continue the decadal review process that shapes salaries, pensions and related benefits for government employees.
