IPS Abhinay Vishwakarma introduces corporate standards to Katni Police

Katni Police gets a corporate upgrade. IPS Abhinay Vishwakarma, a 2019 batch officer of MP cadre currently posted as SP Katni is redefining what quality policing looks like. Under his leadership,16 police units and offices received ISO certification making Katni one of the few districts in Madhya Pradesh to implement international quality standards across multiple police establishments.

The initiative was driven by Vishwakarma's belief that government institutions should have the same quality benchmarks as corporate services. Explaining the vision behind the project, he says, “When we buy a helmet, we look for the ISI mark. When we purchase any product, we expect the highest quality standards. If citizens expect that level of quality from the corporate sector, why shouldn't government services meet similar standards? With that objective, we decided that the services delivered through our police stations should also follow internationally accepted quality management standards.”

Under this, Katni Police worked on improving everyday systems and making police stations more organised, transparent and citizen-friendly. From record management and malkhana maintenance to vehicle upkeep, e-waste disposal, infrastructure improvement and standard operating procedures every aspect of police administration was systematically standardised. Waiting areas for visitors, complaint registration systems, cleanliness, public facilities and office management were also upgraded.

Apart from this to better serve vulnerable groups, stations now feature dedicated Child-Friendly Rooms (Bal Mitra Kaksh) and Women’s Help Desks (Mahila Help Desk), alongside unique additions like a Traffic Pathshala & Simulator.Embracing modern policing, tech tools have been integrated including the "Surakshit Katni" app for patrol monitoring, QR Code feedback scanners for instant citizen reviews and "Gram Choupal" safety meetings held every Wednesday.

Following an extensive audit, 13 police stations, two SDOP offices and the Office of the Superintendent of Police (SP Office) were awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for meeting international standards in quality management marking a huge leap forward in quality and public service.

IPS Abhinay Vishwakarma’s focus on improving the standard  helps build greater public trust and also make services more seamless and a comfortable experience rather than intimidating.
