Seniormost IPS officer in Gujarat cadre Rakesh Asthana was the first choice of the State Government for the post of DGP of Gujarat. According to insiders, bosses in Delhi however did not allow him to return to the parent state. 1984 batch IPS officer Asthana is scheduled to retire in July next year.
