SIR in WB: relations between CEC and TMC are very  strained

In West Bengal SIR work is in a mess stage because the state government is not supporting the election machinery in this task. Despite the SC directives that the TMC Government was not interested in extending staff to ECI to run the show, Some FIRs have also been filed against CEC. It is said that after the SIR is completed , TMC ruled state may lose maximum number of voters and this is the reason the party is quite nervous.

RS polls will be a tough for Congress

This time Congress will face a big challenge during the Rajya Sabha polls  in Assam. Elections will be held for three seats in Assam. BJP has an edge and the party will easily clear two seats. The third seat will see  a tough fight between Congress and BJP, because the Congress do not have a required number of MLAs, at least 12 more to reach the cut off number. According to sources the is banking on Badruddin's AUDF for support but if AUDF supper the BJP then BJP will have a clean sweep in Assam.

Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan's Appointment as Manipur Inquiry Commission Head Energises State Bureaucracy, Fact-Finding Process to Gain Momentum?

The appointment of Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into the Manipur violence has injected fresh urgency into what had been a sluggish administrative process. Sources indicate that the Manipur bureaucracy, which had until now remained cautious and guarded in its disclosures, is now displaying a marked eagerness to share details, records, and ground-level findings with the Commission. Officials across departments are reportedly compiling documentation proactively, signalling a notable shift in institutional posture. Justice Chauhan's stature and his reputation for impartiality are said to be key drivers of this renewed confidence within the state apparatus. His team is expected to begin collating facts swiftly, with sources suggesting the Commission could move to structured hearings earlier than initially anticipated. A new wave of administrative momentum, sources say, is already visible on the ground in Imphal.

BSNL Fiasco and Backlash Triggers Inwards looking Reforms in PSU Corridors?

The recent BSNL controversy where resources were reportedly squandered in an elaborate exercise to impress visiting senior management has reverberated well beyond the telecom giant's offices. Sources indicate that the episode has sent a sharp, uncomfortable message to public  sector undertakings across India, where the culture of staging choreographed visits for top brass has long been an open secret. Officials in multiple PSUs are now quietly reassessing internal protocols around such visits. More significantly, a section of retired bureaucrats who helmed these organisations in the past is treating the incident as a moment of candid self-reflection, acknowledging that such performative culture flourished partly due to their own silence and, in many cases, active encouragement.

Information needed for resolution of a legal dispute

Appellant sought information about Foreign Currency payment made in Indian Rupees to the amount of INR 70,000 around October 1978. The SBI informed that the information could not be retrieved being 40 years old. The appellant argued that the proof of the averred remittance to her father was crucial in the light of a property dispute pending disposal before court of law. The CIC held that the issue for consideration before it is grant of relief as per the RTI Act and does not extended to the resolution of legal disputes.

Comments

It has been argued before the CIC that information needed for dispensation of justice should be provided as the same is in public interest. It has also been contended that till the destruction memo is produced, the responsibility of maintaining the records rests with the public authority.
