Is BJP searching for ‘Deluxe Version’ of Nadda for ‘top post’?

The anticipation for the new BJP President is growing day by day. The question looms large in every circle, with several names being discussed from seasoned contenders to new faces and possibilities of dark horses. Many have started believing that the BJP is looking for a copy or rather a deluxe version of J.P. Nadda for the ‘top post’.

Has Congress accepted defeat in Bihar?

One comment of Rahul Gandhi clearly indicates that Congress has accepted defeat in the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections. At a press meet in Delhi on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi stated that it is clear to us that ‘vote chori’ has now become a system. It has been industrialised, and it can be implemented in any state. The same is going to happen in Bihar, and I am confident that after the Bihar elections we will get the same results like in other states. Since the voter list comes out a night before the elections, we can’t do anything beforehand. Except Gandhi, no other constituent of INDIA bloc in Bihar has stated anything about the vote theft or voter list when the election process is on.

IAS Abhilash Baranwal’s Vision for Ri Bhoi: Governance That Reaches Every Doorstep (Meghalaya)

IAS Abhilash Baranwal is a 2018 Batch Officer of Assam-Meghalaya Cadre and is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya. His Vision for the district is to make governance accessible, accountable, and impactful - where development reaches every doorstep, and progress includes everyone.

“The core objective is very simple to make public service delivery as seamless, transparent, and accessible as possible” He quoted

Under his leadership, the district has placed strong emphasis on enforcing the Right to Public Services and the Citizen’s Charter enabling people to know exactly which services are available, the timelines involved and whom to approach. This is aimed at reducing corruption, unnecessary hurdles and ensuring that government systems operate with accountability. Second key pillar of his vision is saturation of central and state government schemes. Whether it is PMAY for housing, MGNREGA for employment or various others, the strategy focuses on maximum and efficient utilization of existing government schemes so no eligible household is left out.

Last but not the least, his third priority is strengthening public institutions -schools, health centers and local governance bodies so that they are capable of delivering quality services consistently.

As an Aspirational District, Ri Bhoi is also working toward measurable improvement in key indicators identified by NITI Aayog. Alongside this, livelihoods especially in rural communities are being supported through NRLM (National Rural Livelihoods Mission) to help households enhance income and resilience.

With this approach IAS Abhilash Baranwal is bridging the gap between government and the people.

Who will succeed Parbat as Member CBDT ?

The retirement of R.N. Parbat as Member (Legislation) has set off a quiet but intense churn within the CBDT, with senior IRS circles abuzz over succession. Parbat’s stewardship during the rollout of the new Income Tax Act made his role pivotal; now, filling his shoes is seen as a defining move for the Board’s legislative direction.

One outcome is seen as certain: the successor will hail from the 1990 IRS batch, the next in line by seniority. This inevitability has triggered subtle lobbying among high-ranking Chief Commissioners and DGITs, with names like Dr. Narender Kumar, Sunil Bajpai, and Mukesh Verma doing the rounds. With an unprecedented legislative overhaul underway, the government is expected to favour an officer with strong policy and drafting credentials, but the final choice will also reflect strategic zonal and functional balance within the Board

For now, every eligible officer from the 1990 batch stands under the spotlight—testament to how one retirement can ripple across India’s direct tax leadership.

Surprise visits by Secretary of Finance M. Nagaraju to public sector banks
Mere visiting is like filing papers in Govt Dept.It is like courts to solve disputes which takes a decade. Let Secy understand the difference between pvt banks. and psu bks while handling customers. More than 60 % of psu bank customers have no literacy to interact and hence the customer dissatisfaction. This cannot be rectified by a simple visit by Finance Ministry. 80 % of PSIU banks are without infrastructure. You cannot contact through telephone. There are many information which can only be discussed personally.

Action taken for overstaying in government accommodation

Information about the policy and instructions regarding the allotment of Government accommodation (Residences, Covered Car Parks, Camp Offices) to the incumbent or Ex. Ministers of Cabinet/State/ Deputy or equivalent status, incumbent or Ex. Member of Parliament between May 1, 2001 and October 30, 2023 was sought by the appellant. Further information about who had overstayed in the Government accommodation, the penal rent collected and copy of notices served etc. was also sought. The PIO replied that the information sought in the instant RTI Application is voluminous as the Appellant is seeking information for 22 years which requires collection and collation of data and providing the same would divert the time and resources of the public authority as per the provisions of Section 7 (9) of the RTI Act. The CIC declined to intervene in the matter observing that a person holds a public office does not, per se, render all personal information subject to public disclosure. The CIC pointed out that public interest is different from public curiosity.

Comments

There has been a long standing discussion about defining the boundaries of Public Interest - Information which is of interest to the public and something which is in the public interest. It raises a pertinent question whether any amount which has been condoned for overstaying in government accommodation should be disclosed.
