Assam Poll Fallout for CM Over Citizenship: Himanta Biswa Sarma to Face Heat from BJP Cadre ?
Reportedly, the allegations made by Pawan Khera against Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife could stir unease within BJP cadres in Assam, especially because Sarma is still seen by some as a leader who rose into the BJP from the Congress rather than through the party’s traditional ideological pipeline.
Political observers are said to believe the timing matters: with the election campaign active, such claims may sharpen internal discomfort, feed rival narratives about loyalty and legitimacy, and force the BJP to spend energy on defense rather than messaging.
That said, the impact may be limited if cadres rally around Sarma, as the BJP has already framed the allegations as politically motivated and hinted at legal action, which could also trigger a counter-backlash against Congress.
In effect, the row is reportedly less about the documents alone and more about perception, and whether it briefly unsettles the party base or instead hardens support around Sarma in the heat of the Assam contest.

In a crime review meeting held on Saturday, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha instructed his officers to adopt the “broken window” theory and take strict action against minor offences before they escalate into serious crimes. The commissioner emphasised that early intervention is vital to maintaining public order and community safety.
The “broken window” theory, used widely in global policing, underscores that unchecked minor violations, such as quarrels, public nuisance, or small acts of vandalism, can foster an environment conducive to graver offences. Golchha urged his team to treat every minor disturbance as an early warning sign of potential criminal behaviour, stressing that swift corrective measures restore public confidence and deter misconduct.
According to an officer present at the meeting, Golchha directed that district police units identify and act against recurring trouble spots, ensuring visible enforcement across localities. He also highlighted the need for stronger community engagement to curb disorderly conduct and reinforce citizens’ sense of safety.
The Ministry of Defence signed a Rs1,950 crore capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for two indigenously designed DRDO (Electronics & Radar Development Establishment) Mountain Radars (with equipment and infrastructure) for the IAF. These 300 km-range radars will plug surveillance gaps in mountainous terrain, integrate with IACCCS, and reduce foreign dependency.

Why is the government taking unnecessary 18 months to recommend the 8th pay commission is beyond understanding? Already everything is a pay matrix and they just have to decide the fitment factor. During 7th pay commission, we suffered a loss of 18+6 months HRA arrears. Unnecessary dragging the issue leads to poor government employees losing the arrears. Last pay commission DA was 135+ and now DA is hardly around 60 per cent. What can we expect in 8th pay commission? Nothing more and expectations are very less. 01.01.2026 DA has not been announced till now and we are calculating 8th CPC arrears.

Repeated RTI applications on identical issue
The respondent submitted that the appellant has filed multiple queries seeking confirmation/ implementation of provisions under Central Acts. The RTI applications were timely disposed of and although the queries did not conform to the definition of “information” under Section 2 (f) of the RTI Act, necessary clarification was provided with reference to extant guidelines and OMs in response to few of the RTI applications. The CIC observed that appropriate response has been given by the CPIO in all the second appeals, as per provisions of the RTI Act. The CIC noted that the RTI requests of the appellant do not strictly conform to Section 2(f) of the RTI Act as the appellant had sought for answers/clarifications to speculative and hypothetical queries. Further, the CIC pointed to the appellant that as per the mandate of the RTI Act, outstretching the interpretation of Section 2(f) of the RTI Act to include deductions and inferences to be drawn by the CPIO is unwarranted as it casts immense pressure on the CPIOs to ensure that they provide the correct deduction/inference to avoid being subject to penal provisions under the RTI Act. The Commission observed that 86 second appeals were disposed earlier arising out of RTI applications filed by the appellant before several public authorities wherein similar speculative and hypothetical queries were raised, calling for no relief under the Act. In addition, 18 appeals were disposed of in CIC/CICOM/A/2024/658048 & Ors, vide decision dated 25.07.2025. It is appalling that despite having scheduled multiple appeals for hearing with advance notice, the appellant failed to appear before the Commission, which has caused unwarranted loss of time and public resources. The CIC advised the Appellant to make judicious use of his right to information in the future and to desist from filing repetitive RTI Applications as Appeal(s) emanating from the same are liable to be summarily dismissed henceforth. The CIC held that the Respondent(s) are also at liberty to rely on the instant decision in the event that the Appellant files same or similar RTI Applications in the future.
