POLITICAL WHISPERS

Will Bihar have BJP CM ?

Although it is settled among the NDA allies that after elections Nitish Kumar will again be the Chief Minister, political observers do not rule out the possibility of BJP’s Chief Minister  after the results are announced. In case, there is a BJP CM, the person to be chosen for the post will certainly be a new face.

Washington Post has lost its charm in India’s elite circles?

Once an emblem of fearless journalism that brought down a U.S. president through its Watergate exposé, The Washington Post today faces an acute credibility crisis in India. Its recent reporting on India’s economic and political affairs, particularly a claim that the government planned a $3.9 billion infusion into Adani Group via LIC, has drawn fierce backlash for relying on anonymous sources and partial documents without verifiable proof. Indian institutions swiftly dismissed the allegations as false and misleading, while social media users labeled the story another “hit job.” The mounting criticism reflects a broader perception that the newspaper has slipped from investigative rigor into geopolitical bias, unable to grasp a self-assured India narrating its own economic success. With repeated corrections and controversies in recent years, many Indian policymakers and journalists now view The Washington Post with skepticism, preferring outlets that reflect greater factual integrity and balance.

HAL and UAC sign MoU in Moscow for production of SJ-100 (UPDATED)

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Public Joint Stock Company United Aircraft Corporation (PJSC-UAC) Russia signed an MoU for production of civil commuter aircraft SJ-100 in Moscow, Russia on October 27, 2025. Shri Prabhat Ranjan, HAL and Mr. Oleg Bogomolov, PJSC UAC, Russia, signed the MoU in the presence of Dr. D. K. Sunil, CMD, HAL and Mr. Vadim Badekha, Director General, PJSC UAC. SJ-100 is a twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft. As on date, more than 200 aircraft have been produced and are being operated by more than 16 commercial airline operators. SJ-100 will be the game changer for short-haul connectivity under the UDAN Scheme in India. Under this arrangement, HAL will have the rights to manufacture SJ-100 aircraft for domestic customers. This collaboration between HAL and UAC is the result of mutual trust between the organisations. This will also be the first instance wherein a complete passenger aircraft will be produced in India. The last such project was HAL’s production of AVRO HS-748, which started in 1961 and ended in 1988. It is estimated that over the next ten years, the Indian aviation sector will require over 200 jets in this category for regional connectivity and an additional 350 aircraft for the Indian Ocean region to serve nearby international tourist destinations. The manufacturing of the SJ-100 aircraft marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Indian aviation industry. It’s a step towards fulfilling the dream of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in the civil aviation sector. Manufacturing will also strengthen the private sector and create direct and indirect jobs in the aviation industry.

"Over-bureaucratisation is regressive”

The centre is mulling a proposal to "fast-track deputation" of IAS officers to the public sector. The news was recently reported in the WIC. The move amounts to “fixing square pegs in round holes”. Unarguably,we need more professionals than administrators, to run the public sector. According to management experts,over-bureaucratisation of public sector is   anti-thetical to the concept of corporate culture. The competent authority needs to keep this in view while embarking on any decision.
