Bihar: Search for the new DGP in full swing

With the appointment of Vinay Kumar as CIC the process to select his successor has begun. Bihar Government is shortlisting a panel of senior IPS officers to be sent to the Union Public Service Commission. The UPSC will pick three names and forward them to the state Government. From the three shortlisted names, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will pick the name of the new DGP. As per the rule, at least 30 years of service is required to be the DGP. The list includes Preeta Verma (IPS: 1991), Bhrigu Srinivasan (IPS: 1992), Jitendra Singh Gangwar (IPS: 1993), Jitendra Kumar (IPS: 1993) and Kundan Krishnan (IPS: 1994). The name of Nirmal Kumar Azad (IPS: 1994) is reportedly not in the list of shortlisted candidates. There are, at present, 10 IPS officers holding the rank of DG. Vinay Kumar was appointed Bihar DGP in December 2024. Preeta Verma holds the temporary charge.
