Centre approves dedicated Delhi PWD cadre to overhaul urban infrastructure

The Central Government has approved the separation of Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) engineering posts from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) cadre, establishing a dedicated, independent Delhi PWD Engineering Cadre. This landmark reform is designed to eliminate administrative bottlenecks, strengthen municipal oversight, and accelerate project execution across the National Capital.

By transitioning from temporary CPWD deputations to a permanent, localized cadre, Delhi gains full operational control over its civil and electrical engineering workforce. A dedicated technical apparatus will fast-track high-priority transit, drainage, and road development initiatives while guaranteeing consistent, high-standard construction quality fit for a modern, world-class capital.
