Seven vacant positions of Judges in Supreme Court at present have arisen on account of retirements – first of Justice Ranjan Gogoi as Chief Justice of India (CJI) in November 2019 and subsequently of Justices Deepak Gupta, R Bhanumathi, Arun Mishra, Indu Malhotra, and SA Bobde, who demitted office as the CJI last month. Besides, Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar passed away in April.
