whispers in the corridors

IAS Himanshu Nagpal is a 2019 batch officer currently posted in Varanasi, the constituency of the Prime Minister. Known for his progressive vision and strong track record of driving impactful initiatives, One of his key projects is Mission Parivartan which aims at transforming Anganwadi centers into more efficient and effective environments for a brighter future of the citizens.
Under this Anganwadis, (a government-run childcare centers) serving as the first stepping stone for education and nutrition for millions of children in India, has undergone a major revival under Mission Parivartan.
So far, 2,382 Anganwadi buildings have been rejuvenated, achieving 96% saturation, and 692 new centers have been constructed, bringing the total number of centers to 3,074. This transformation is part of the BALA (Building as Learning Aid) initiative which aims to design and upgrade Anganwadi centers to provide a conducive learning environment.
The upgraded centers boast several key features such as each center is now equipped with LED TVs to support digital learning and make education more interactive and engaging for kids. Basic amenities like water supply, furniture, and play equipment have been provided to ensure comfort and encourage a lively environment. In an effort to embrace sustainability, all centers are now powered by solar energy, ensuring round-the-clock electricity supply. The infrastructure is made more child friendly with additions like Poshan Vatikas, kid-friendly toilets, and outdoor play equipment for physical activity and positive development leading to better health, hygiene, and well-being.
Beyond rural transformations, Mission Parivartan has also made significant progress in urban spaces. A total of 750 new rented buildings have been arranged and 65 old and unused buildings have been repurposed to house Anganwadi centers. In highly congested urban areas, 25 porta cabins have been set up to maintain accessibility.
With Nagpal’s continuous efforts to make a difference, attendance rates have surged from 35% to 80%, indicating increased engagement and enthusiasm among children. Furthermore, the rate of malnourishment has dramatically dropped from 7.7% to just 0.12%, resolving a significant hurdle in child’s development.
By transforming Anganwadi centers,Mission Parivartan has not only enhanced infrastructure but also significantly enriched the learning experience and Nutritional support , paving the way for a brighter future for India's Youth. This initiative can be a gamechanger for rural India where agandwadi’s plays a major role in women’s and children’s life.
