CM Sangma Unveils Meghalaya Draft Film Tourism Policy 2025 (UPDATED)

In a visionary step to promote Meghalaya as a film tourism hub, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Tourism Minister jointly launched the Draft Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025. The event brought together filmmakers, content creators, and media stakeholders to encourage collaboration and public participation. The CM said the draft is open for feedback till June 20, 2025, via the Meghalaya One portal. “We want this policy to reflect your ideas and suggestions,” he said. The policy supports Meghalaya’s Vision 2032 of becoming a $16 billion economy and focuses on three main goals: Promoting Meghalaya as a top film tourism destination by highlighting its beauty and culture, supporting local talent through infrastructure, training, and exposure and positioning the state as a key film production hub in Northeast India with incentives and smooth processes. Key benefits include: Financial aid up to Rs 1.5 crore for films in major Indian languages, grants for films showcasing Meghalaya’s culture, training and support for local content creators, incentives for films on Hello Meghalaya, the state’s OTT platform and encouragement of private investments in studios and post-production units. Future plans include starting a Film Institute and rotating film festivals in towns like Tura and Jowai. National Award-winning filmmaker Pradip Kurbah praised the move, saying it fosters real opportunities for local storytellers. This draft policy is a milestone in making Meghalaya a vibrant part of the global film industry.
