Sunday Cycling With IAS Prashasti Pareek: Arvalli’s People’s Fitness Movement

IAS Prashasti Pareek, is a 2014-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre and is currently serving as the Collector of Arvalli, Gujarat.A firm believer that “Health is true wealth”, she has placed citizens' fitness and well-being at the heart of her work in the district.

“We are working to promote a culture of fitness and sports.”she shared

Inspired by Fit India Movement,a multi-pronged approach is being implemented in the district.

First is development of playgrounds in villages and schools, largely through DMF and other available grants.

Second is renovation of old and dilapidated sports complexes “With the help of the Nagar Palika, we recently redeveloped the sports complex in Modasa.” She added

Thirdly as community driven initiative, cycling is being promoted every Sunday- an effort which has quickly gained popularity. Senior citizens, homemakers, and youth are all actively participating. I personally join every week, and it has grown entirely on a voluntary basis, not by any directive,” she explained.

At its core, her vision rests on three pillars: Fitness, Health as True Wealth, and an Obesity-Free India, all directed towards building a healthier and more active community.

Beyond fitness, she has also launched the first phase of the Santrupti Abhiyan. “Under this the goal is to ensure that every household and every individual is covered under all relevant government schemes.” She said

Under this a comprehensive survey is being carried for beneficiary identification with the help of village-level staff, Anganwadi workers, and other local resources.“This is a district-level initiative.we are converging existing funds and resources to make it possible.” she quoted

With people at the centre, her approach remains truly community-driven, turning governance into a shared movement rather than just an administrative exercise.
