DRDO-Safran Jet Engine Collaboration

On August 27, 2025, reports indicate that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to seek approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in September 2025 for a joint venture with French aerospace giant Safran to develop a 120 kN thrust jet engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). This project, involving full technology transfer and 100% Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for India, is expected to commence production by 2030, with mass production planned in India thereafter.
