“My goal is to make government hospitals the first choice for middle class" - IAS Swapnil Wankhade’s Dream for Datia, MP

IAS Swapnil Wankhade is a 2016 Batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently posted as Collector of Datia, MP. Known for his People centric approach, his vision for the district focuses on strengthening primary health care and rural delivery centres.

“My goal is to make government hospitals the first choice for the middle class, so people can rely on affordable public healthcare instead of expensive private facilities.” He quoted

Recognizing that most deliveries still take place at the district hospital, forcing pregnant women from remote villages to travel long distances. Wankhade is working to upgrade primary healthcare centres and Community Nursing Points (CNPs) across the district, so safe deliveries can happen closer to home. His plan includes improving infrastructure, ensuring the availability of essential medicines, enhancing safety, installing proper lighting around hospitals for women arriving at night, and strengthening human-resource support.

Under his leadership, there has been significant improvement with deliveries in rural government facilities rising by 70%. “My aim is to increase this fivefold, making quality healthcare accessible in every corner of the district” he shared.
