Hindustan Copper Ltd. organizes Seminar on Ethics & Contract Management (UPDATED)

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), a CPSU under the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, organized a Seminar on 'Ethics and Contract Management' as a part of the Preventive Vigilance Awareness Campaign 2025, themed on 'Vigilance – A shared responsibility'. The event was graced by Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, HCL, and Dr Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, Director (Operations) and Director (Mining)- Addl. Charge who joined through Video Conference, R V N Vishweshwar, Director (Finance), HCL, Harsimran Singh, IRSE, Chief Vigilance Office, HCL, esteemed guest speakers, CVOs and former CVOs and officers of Central organizations based in and around Kolkata and under Ministry of Mines, HODs and officers of HCL. Before the august gathering, CMD HCL launched a booklet on “Standard Operating Procedure for Engineer in Charge” as a tool for ethical, efficient and transparent contract management. The book aims to serve as a guiding light for ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities, promoting transparency and facilitating compliance with contractual terms. Harsimran Singh, CVO welcomed all with his energetic address and encouraged all to imbibe the Ethical qualities in personal and professional lives. He stressed on following the three cannons of Transparency, Fairness and Equity in finalization of tenders and implementation of contract works for ensuring best value for money and nation building. The keynote speaker of the day was Major General (Dr) MJS Syali, VSM, Secretary and Director General of The Institution of Engineers (India),one of the most renowned Institutions in the Country with over 8 Lakh members across 15 disciplines. Other distinguished speakers invited for the programme were Rajesh Prasad, Advisor, IRCON International, an ex-IRSE officer of 1988 exam batch and ex-Director/RVNL, Swami Vedatitananda ji from Ramakrishna Mission Shiplamandira, Belur Math, and Ashutosh Kumar Mishra, Advocate-on-Record, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, a Mining Engineer with passion for legal studies. Major General Syali deliberated on the importance of Ethics and shared insights about ethical dilemmas and how to inculcate ethical values. Swami Vedatitananda ji encouraged all to lead the ethical life by imbibing ethical values. Rajesh Prasad delved into the contract management in details with several live examples and video clips. Amit Kumar Mishra explained the nitty- gritty of the legal aspects of contract management. The CVOs also shared their ideas and areas of concern. The event was highly interactive in nature with the participants clarifying their doubts, sharing their views and voicing their queries. In today’s dynamic business environment, contracts are not just legal documents — they are commitments built on trust, fairness and accountability. While procedures and compliance guide the framework of contracts, it is ethics that lends them credibility, transparency and long-term value.
