Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, a 1986-batch Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer, is scheduled to retire in August 2026 and is not expected to receive an extension.

Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Western Railway, a 1988-batch IRSE officer is likely to succeed Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar on his retirement in August.
