Parliamentary Standing Committee scheduled to review diaspora safety (UPDATED)

An important update on the government’s response to the West Asia crisis is expected this week, with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs scheduled to review India’s handling of diaspora safety, security and repatriation on March 18, 2026. The second sitting of the day, slated for 5:30 pm, will see senior representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs brief the panel on contingency measures, evacuation planning, and the broader policy framework guiding India’s response to the ongoing conflict and its impact on Indian nationals abroad. Earlier the same afternoon, at 4:30 pm, the committee will first hear from officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on the outcomes of the recent AI Summit, with a focus on diplomatic, regulatory and technology-cooperation takeaways. Together, the back-to-back briefings position the committee as a key forum for parliamentary scrutiny on how India is navigating both cutting-edge technology diplomacy and high-stakes crisis management in West Asia.
