An interesting fact is that India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is a China policy expert himself which has made it easier for Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla to take a back seat when it comes to talking to key Chinese Govt. functionaries. In June last year China appointed its former envoy to Pakistan, Sun Weidong as India’s Ambassador after his predecessor Luo Zhaohui was promoted as Deputy Foreign Minister. Sun currently heads the Policy and Planning Department of the Foreign Ministry in China and has worked closely with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar when he was India’s envoy to Beijing.
