whispers in the corridors

Maha voters say goodbye to family parties

The Maharashtra Civic Poll results clearly indicate that the State voters have rejected the family parties- Thakereys and Pawars from their occupied den. The Marathi Manus party- SSUBT and MNS in Mumbai and Pawars in Pune and Pimpri- Chichwad were shown the doors.
No more INDIA bloc in Maharashtra

After the Civic Poll result in Maharashtra, the INDIA bloc future is bleak now. Experts said that now Maharashtra may not see the bloc and Sharad Pawar and Uddhav have become politically weak.
Shaksgam Valley Dispute: China’s Bold Rejection and India’s Sovereignty Challenge

China has explicitly rejected India’s claims over the Shaksgam Valley. This rejection occurred when Chinese foreign ministry officials dismissed recent Indian protests against Beijing’s activities in the region. China asserted its full sovereign rights to develop infrastructure there, including the construction of roads and other projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The CPEC is a flagship initiative under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aimed at enhancing connectivity between China and Pakistan, but it has drawn criticism from India for passing through disputed territories like Gilgit-Baltistan.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of heightened military activities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border between India and China. Reports indicate an intensified Chinese military buildup in the area, including troop deployments and fortifications, which echo the deadly 2020 Galwan Valley clash that resulted in casualties on both sides and severely strained bilateral relations. The current situation raises concerns about potential miscalculations leading to further confrontations.
A social media post by senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani highlighted China’s aggressive stance. Geopolitical analyst Zard si Gana’s update described Beijing’s approach as an “occupy first, rationalize later” strategy, emphasizing how China consolidates control through faits accomplis before justifying them diplomatically.
Further complicating the narrative are recent diplomatic engagements. Recent meetings between representatives of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and China’s Communist Party (CCP) took place in Delhi. These interactions send mixed signals. They could indicate pragmatic efforts to de-escalate tensions through backchannel diplomacy, or they might be perceived as appeasement, potentially undermining India’s firm position on territorial integrity.
The Shaksgam Valley, also known as the Trans-Karakoram Tract, is a strategically important region spanning approximately 5,180 square kilometers in northern Kashmir. From an analytical perspective, this outright rejection exposes vulnerabilities in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government diplomatic strategy. It tests India’s “defiant doctrine,” a policy framework outlined in a Finepoint analysis from January 3, 2026, which emphasizes standing firm against territorial encroachments while pursuing economic and strategic partnerships. Predictions from experts and diplomatic whispers suggest the possibility of renewed flare-ups along the LAC, prompting India to strengthen alliances such as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) involving the US, Japan, and Australia for enhanced deterrence capabilities.
Diplomatic whispers point to quiet negotiations, though public posturing may spark nationalist backlash before 2026 assembly polls. Overall, the Shaksgam Valley dispute highlights the broader challenges in India-China relations, where territorial ambitions intersect with economic interdependencies and geopolitical rivalries.

Forests are among the most vital natural assets of Jammu and Kashmir, forming the backbone of ecological stability, water security, biodiversity and rural livelihoods.Nearly 48 per cent of the Union Territory’s geographical area is recorded as forest, far higher than the national average, placing Jammu and Kashmir among the most forest-rich regions of the country. Located in the ecologically fragile Western Himalayas, its forests and river systems, including the Jhelum,Chenab and Ravi act as critical watersheds and natural buffers against floods, landslides and soil erosion. As climate change intensifies pressure on these ecosystems, forest conservation and restoration have become more urgent than ever.
At the helm of forest governance in the Kashmir region is senior Indian Forest Service officer Irfan Rasool Wani (2006 batch), currently serving as Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir, a position he has held since August 2024. Under his leadership, the Forest Department has launched several transformative initiatives aimed at strengthening forest protection, restoring degraded ecosystems and reconnecting people with forests.
One of the most significant initiatives is the large-scale survey and installation of forest boundary pillars to safeguard forest land from encroachment. The Kashmir Valley alone has around 58,000 boundary pillars. Survey work has already been completed and installation is progressing rapidly, with full completion targeted by March 2026. In a pioneering move, the Forest Department has adopted advanced CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) and DGPS (Differential GPS) technology for high-precision digital mapping of forest boundaries, making it the first department in Jammu and Kashmir to do so. This digital demarcation is expected to significantly strengthen protection against encroachments, enable better monitoring of forest cover changes and improve forest fire management.

Parallel efforts are underway to revive degraded watersheds and restore ecological balance. Extensive soil and moisture conservation worksincluding spring rejuvenation, construction of check dams, water harvesting structures and afforestationare being carried out across critical catchments. Major eco-restoration projects at Khazanmatti (Kupwara), Manasbal (Ganderbal) and Veerwan (Baramulla) are stabilising fragile mountain slopes through an integrated mix of forestry and engineering solutions.
A landmark achievement has been the successful completion of a pioneering spring census, which identified over 18,000 springs across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir. This comprehensive exercise will serve as a crucial baseline for scientific water conservation planning and targeted interventions. It is expected to significantly improve moisture regimes in critical catchment areas, thereby strengthening long-term water security and ecological resilience.
Over the past two years, the Forest Department has consistently planted more than 30 lakh saplings on degraded forest land in the Kashmir region to improve forest cover. Notably, public participation has been central to these efforts. Schools, NGOs, government institutions, police and paramilitary forces have actively joined plantation drives, transforming them into a mass green movement.

Beyond conservation, the Forest Department is re-envisioning forests as spaces for recreation, education and sustainable livelihoods. Over the last two years, 84 trekking routes, 13 eco-parks and 11 Nagar Vans have been developed across the region. These initiatives have opened up off-beat destinations, generated employment for local youth and reduced pressure on forests. More than six lakh visitors have explored these eco-parks over the past three years, providing a significant boost to local economies.
To strengthen people-nature connect, the Forest Department has established Nature Libraries in schools located near forest-fringe villages and published an innovative activity book titled “Van Darshini”, featuring 14 nature-based learning activities for students.

For Kashmir, forests are not a distant environmental concern; they are the lifeline and one of its greatest assets. They regulate the flow of rivers, stabilise fragile mountains, sustain agriculture and shape nature-based tourism that is central to the Valley’s economy and global image. In a region where climate change is altering snowfall patterns, shrinking glaciers and intensifying extreme weather events, healthy forests are critical to both ecological resilience and sustainable tourism. The sustained efforts of the Indian Forest Service and the Forest Department therefore represent an investment not just in conservation, but in Kashmir’s water security, tourism economy and long-term stabilityensuring that the Valley’s natural beauty and ecological strength endure for generations to come.

Reports from Mantralaya suggest a sudden surge of activity among Maharashtra’s top bureaucrats as many rushed to congratulate Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the BJP’s sweeping victory in the BMC polls. Senior IAS and IPS officers were quick to send messages and make courtesy visits to the CM’s residence, with some sources describing it as an “unspoken competition” to be seen early among the well-wishers. The enthusiasm reflects the political undercurrent in the state bureaucracy, where officers often try to align with the prevailing power center. While officials publicly maintained it was a gesture of respect, insiders noted that the timing and scale of these congratulatory overtures carried clear signals of administrative positioning after the party’s decisive win.

‘Life's Quiet Laws'
Life does not shout its lessons. It whispers them daily, patiently, until time turns those whispers into consequences. Many people realize this only after opportunities have passed, health has faded or trust has been broken. Many life secrets most people learn too late. Every essential part of living speaks a simple, unchanging language.
Money speaks only one language viz., responsibility. If you save and respect it today, it will protect you tomorrow. Treat it carelessly, and it will disappear when you need it most. Money does not reward desire, rather it rewards discipline. Similarly, time speaks only one truth, which is, irreversibility. If you waste it now, it will fail you later. Time cannot be borrowed, paused or refunded. It either compounds your efforts or magnifies your regrets. To mention about health, it gives only one warning, that is, attention. Ignore it today and it will abandon you tomorrow. The body keeps a quiet score of every neglect and every care. By the time pain speaks, prevention has already gone silent.
To mention a few more, trust speaks only one rule and that is fragility. Break it once, and it may never fully return. Trust takes years to build, seconds to destroy and sometimes a lifetime to repair, if at all possible. To speak about discipline, it tells only one result and that is freedom. If you follow me today, I will reward you tomorrow. What feels like restriction now becomes strength later. Discipline is the bridge between intention and achievement.
Education speaks only one promise and which is elevation. Invest in it today, and it will lift you for a lifetime. Education does not just change what you know, it changes what you see, what you question and what you believe is possible. Similarly, Respect speaks only one path - reciprocity. Give it sincerely, and it returns to you. Demand it without offering it, and it disappears. Respect is earned through consistency, not claimed through words. To mention about Character, it speaks only one truth, that is, protection. Build it daily, and it will defend you when no one else does. Reputation may open doors, but character determines whether you deserve to walk through them. Love speaks only one action - expression. Show it now, and it grows with you. Neglect it, and it withers silently. Love survives not on intention, but on presence, patience and care.
Last but not the least, Knowledge. It speaks only one promise, that is, service. Chase it now, and it will serve you forever. Knowledge is the only possession that multiplies when shared and strengthens with use.
Life does not punish or reward randomly. It responds. Every choice made today is a message sent to tomorrow. Those who learn early live lighter. Those who learn late live wiser, but often with scars. The secrets were never hidden. They were simply ignored.
Yours truly,
Subbiah Sridhar
Assessment reports of the medical colleges to be uploaded on the official website of NMC
Appellant sought for the attested photocopy of the completed standard assessment (form A & B) for recognition of MBBS seats for the AY 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24, submitted by the Principal of the Kanti Devi Medical College Hospital and Research Center Mathura, UP. The appellant stated that the inspectors or assessors of the National Medical Commission physically visit the college campus to prepare the report, after checking whether the medical college has sufficient number of beds, faculty, nurses and infrastructure of hostels, library, lecture halls, playground and hospital. So, the report has all the relevant information crucial for the prospective MBBS students to decide their admission in a particular college. The assessors give their observations to the replies submitted by college authorities and upon preparation of the report, the assessors send one copy to the NMC and one to the College. Based on the observations and recommendations, the NMC decides whether or not to sanction the running of a medical college and grant permission for admissions for the academic year in which assessment is conducted. Hence, the assessment reports are crucial source of information, particularly for aspiring medical students who can verify the infrastructure and faculty of the medical colleges, whether a particular college is fulfilling the prescribed medical education norms or not to and make admission decisions. The Respondent stated that since Under Graduate Medical Board (UGMEB) is not the custodian of the information, the same was sought from concerned Board i.e. Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) and it was intimated that during the said period MARB will not be able to furnish the Assessment Report under NMC Act, 2019. The CIC held that the information sought by the Appellant ought to be disclosed and placed in public domain. In the past that, the CIC has directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to upload infrastructure, faculty and other related information in the form of the assessment reports of the medical colleges on its official website, nmc.org.in, considering the crucial nature of the information.
Comments
Availability of information about the infrastructure and faculty of the colleges helps an aspiring student to compare them to make admission decisions. Information regarding whether a particular college is fulfilling the prescribed education norms or not must be made public as it is essential for every student.
