Delhi Assembly Special Session: AAP Turmoil Likely to Derail Proceedings, Not Let CM speak?

The Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to convene a one-day special session on April 28, 2026, officially to discuss the "Nari Shakti" women's reservation issue. However, the session is expected to be marred by significant political upheaval following the recent defection of prominent Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and six other parliamentarians to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This mass exodus has dealt a severe psychological and organizational blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), triggering widespread internal instability and fears regarding the party’s cohesion ahead of future electoral cycles.
Given the current climate, AAP MLAs are reportedly planning to stage dramatic protests during the session, with insiders indicating they may attempt to disrupt the proceedings to prevent the Chief Minister from addressing the House. The party, currently facing its biggest crisis to date, is struggling to maintain its parliamentary presence and counter narratives pushed by the BJP. With security at the Old Secretariat already heightened due to prior threats, this session promises to be a flashpoint of intensifying confrontation, further complicating the legislative agenda in the national capital.

IPS Tushar Dudi a 2018 batch officer of Andhra Pradesh Cadre and currently posted as Superintendent of Police, Chittoor district has launched a community focused initiative 'Dhairya Sparsha' an effort that shifts focus from reacting to crime to addressing the spaces where it tends to originate.
The programme begins with a simple but powerful idea that crime often festers in neglected spaces. “We are focusing on small neglected spots, dark corners, abandoned buildings, underpasses, where people hesitate to go.” he explained. These areas, due to poor lighting and lack of CCTV coverage, often attract antisocial activities and slowly create fear among residents.
Under this initiative, such spots are being identified through crime data and citizen feedback. Once mapped, the transformation begins- improved lighting, installation of CCTV cameras, drone and traditional beat patrolling, repainting, repairs and visible police presence. The aim is to make these spots usable again, not merely monitored. “When a place remains dark and empty, it naturally becomes vulnerable. Our effort is to make it active and visible”
What makes the model different is its community link. After initial development, local committees are being involved so that maintenance and ownership do not remain solely with the police. Additionally depending on the nature of the location, facilities such as open gyms or basketball courts are being introduced to encourage footfall and positive public engagement. “Police cannot permanently monitor or manage these places. So we are developing these spots and gradually handing them over to local communities” he said.
Seeing the strong positive response and encouragement from people, the project which was originally planned for 15 locations has now expanded to a target of 45-50 spots. “A few spots have already been completed while more are in progress” he quoted
Dhairya Sparsha represents a shift from reactive policing to restorative policing improving the environment, turning neglected zones into vibrant public spaces and strengthening police-public trust.

In these testing times marked by escalating climate crises, geopolitical tensions from Ukraine to the Middle East, and AI-driven disruptions, the next UN Secretary-General must be a unifying force. Among the four nominees, who emerges as the frontrunner?
Chile's Michelle Bachelet, former High Commissioner for Human Rights, brings proven crisis diplomacy and gender equity expertise, ideal for addressing global inequalities. Argentina's Rafael Grossi, IAEA chief, excels in nuclear non-proliferation and technical leadership amid rising energy conflicts. Costa Rica's Rebeca Grynspan, seasoned UNDP and FAO veteran, champions sustainable development and Latin American perspectives on poverty.
Senegal's Macky Sall, ex-president with African Union experience, offers bold leadership on security and migration, vital for the Global South's voice.
The 2027 race tests regional rotation (favoring Eastern Europe or underrepresented areas) and P5 consensus. Expect intense lobbying Bachelet or Grossi may lead, but surprises loom in our fractured world.

The Finance Ministry has sounded the alarm over emerging cybersecurity threats linked to cutting-edge artificial intelligence, convening a high-level meeting with top banking executives on April 23. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman led discussions focused on assessing risks associated with Anthropic’s reportedly powerful “Cloud Mythos” model.
According to officials familiar with the meeting, the AI system is being described as one of the most advanced in the cybersecurity domain, raising concerns about its potential misuse. Its capabilities are believed to be so sophisticated that unrestricted public access could significantly lower the barrier for executing complex cyberattacks.
Banking leaders were asked to evaluate vulnerabilities across digital infrastructure, with particular emphasis on safeguarding financial networks from AI-driven threats. The meeting also explored the need for stronger regulatory frameworks and real-time threat monitoring systems.
The development signals a growing recognition within the government that next-generation AI tools, while transformative, may also introduce systemic risks to financial stability if left unchecked. Policymakers are now weighing the balance between innovation and security as AI capabilities rapidly evolve.

In a major political earthquake on April 24, 2026, senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha, along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs - Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, and Vikram Sahni, resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and merged with the BJP. Invoking the two-thirds clause under the Tenth Schedule, the group cited AAP’s deviation from its core anti-corruption and governance principles as the trigger.
AAP’s Rajya Sabha strength plummeted from 10 to 3 seats, while BJP’s rose from 106 to 113, strengthening the NDA’s Upper House position. The move legally shields the defectors from disqualification and weakens AAP’s parliamentary voice significantly.
The split hits hardest in Punjab, where AAP governs and 2027 Assembly polls loom. Loss of prominent faces like Chadha risks eroding organisational morale and voter trust. In Delhi, it further dents AAP’s ability to project a polished, urban-friendly image amid existing anti-incumbency.
The exodus exposes deep factionalism and critiques of centralised leadership under Arvind Kejriwal. It echoes earlier exits of founders like Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, raising questions about AAP’s institutionalisation and succession planning.
For the BJP, this is a tactical victory — gaining experienced voices, bolstering numbers, and reinforcing the “Operation Lotus” narrative of absorbing disillusioned opposition leaders. It amplifies BJP’s “wave of change” story ahead of key state polls.
The split underscores fragility in newer parties facing power, probes, and ambition. For the opposition INDIA bloc, it signals further disarray. AAP must now focus on governance delivery and rebuilding credibility, while whispers suggest possible further exits if agency actions intensify.
The April 24 split marks a critical inflection point - a short-term setback for AAP that could accelerate its marginalisation nationally, or a pruning that allows reinvention — depending on how Kejriwal navigates the coming months. It strengthens BJP’s dominance in narrative and numbers in the near term.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh on 28-29 April to launch a fresh round of infrastructure and rail upgrades, with the spotlight on two new Amrit Bharat Express services and the Ganga Expressway. The trains to be flagged off are Banaras–Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya-Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), aimed at improving long-distance connectivity for passengers from eastern Uttar Pradesh .
The larger showcase, however, is the 594-km Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, built at a total cost of around ₹36,230 crore. The access-controlled greenfield corridor is expected to cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from 10-12 hours to around 6 hours, while also linking multiple districts across the state. A 3.5-km emergency landing facility in Shahjahanpur adds strategic value to the project.
For Uttar Pradesh, the visit reinforces the state’s role as a major hub of railway expansion and highway development. The new Amrit Bharat services are being positioned as affordable, modern long-distance trains, adding another layer to the government’s connectivity push.
