Current round of India-US Trade Talks, can lead to a good news

A fresh round of India-US trade talks is on the horizon, with Rajesh Agarwal, India’s chief trade negotiator, set to lead the delegation to Washington. Sources suggest that the discussions could result in a significant easing of tariffs imposed on Indian goods. While the contours of the deal remain under wraps, speculation points to the possibility of either a quantitative cap or qualitative curb on existing duties. Another area closely watched is the service sector, which may see some form of exemption in these negotiations. Insiders believe that the mood surrounding the talks is positive, with both sides eyeing a potential breakthrough. If successful, this would mark a major boost for India’s trade relations with the US. The outcome of these negotiations is likely to set the tone for bilateral economic ties in the coming months. Will it lead to reduced Tariffs, or exemption of service sector is to be seen but a positive news is bound to come.

India has made it clear that it will not issue a condemnation statement against Israel, despite EU pressures

India is expected to resist Europe’s push for a leader-specific denunciation over Gaza and maintain its calibrated line of supporting a two-state solution, ceasefire, hostages’ release, and humanitarian access without naming or condemning Israel or Prime Minister Netanyahu, as reflected in recent parliamentary replies and UN statements. New Delhi’s official responses reiterate backing for Palestinian UN membership and a negotiated two-state outcome while balancing Israel’s security concerns, indicating principle without EU-style censure. Analyses of India’s recent abstention and distancing from sharply critical multilateral texts underscore a consistent reluctance to adopt language calling out Israeli aggression. Concurrent economic and strategic engagement, including high-level visits and agreements, reinforces the expectation that India will not issue the Europe-backed condemnation it is being pressed to adopt.

Vasundhara Singh’s Bold Debut “When Women Write Women, It’s Different”

Vasundhara Singh, a young writer authored Mistress, Mother a unique and thought provoking story about women and their relationships. Written at just the age of 22,the book explores a narrative rarely touched upon in Indian writing: the unlikely friendship between a wife and her husband’s mistress.Unlike the stereotypical rivalry often seen in such portrayals, Singh’s story brings the two women together in compassion and understanding .At its heart, the novel is about unexpected female friendships.

When asked about how the idea of writing about women came? She said“ The idea of women in Indian society has always intrigued me. There’s so much depth, so many perspectives, and I feel it needs to be written about more. It’s important to write from a female perspective. When men write about women, their focus is usually on beauty or behavior. Women, however, can bring out the little struggles, the depth, the honesty, the everyday realities of navigating a household, building friendships, or even isolation”

For Singh, writing the novel was as much a journey of self-discovery as it was of creativity. “It taught me discipline. People think writing is all about inspiration, but I realized it also requires structure and persistence” she says.

Since her debut, Singh has leaned toward short stories, contributing regularly to international platforms and also earning recognition through award “ Novels take years of work, while short stories allow me to explore themes in shorter .I also feel that in today’s world, with shrinking attention spans, shorter formats connect better with readers.”

Looking ahead, Vasundhra daughter  of MP cadre IPS officer Raja Babu Singh ,aspires to balance her dual ambitions, cracking the UPSC to join the Indian Foreign Service and continuing to write. As she puts it, “Financial independence and storytelling this balance would be ideal.”

Image enhancement a new trend amongst fresh entrants

There is a trend nowadays amongst fresh entrants to the Services to try to enhance their image. So, most of the younger civil servants join social media and start building their image. Most of them try to portray that they have faced a lot of struggle and like to show themselves as authors, poets or sportspersons, etc. All through the history of the Services, the hard working students from diverse backgrounds have joined the Services. Some came from dirt poor backgrounds, most from lower middle class roots; most faced struggles. Only thing is there was no social media, nor any desire to make their achievements seem larger that they actually were. In the interest of society at large and the Services in particular, the young entrants should be mentored to quietly do their work and involve themselves fully with the onerous task of nation building like their predecessors rather than wasting their time and energy on making themselves larger than life on social media. After all, civil servants are not in show business nor are they in politics. Then why these tendencies?

Reasons for returning the registered post envelopes to the sender without any endorsement

Three registered post envelopes were returned to the sender (District Judge) without being delivered. With reference to three registered postal envelopes which were returned without affixing any remark on the envelopes, the appellant requested to provide the reasons for return. The Department of Post submitted that the three registered articles, referred to in the RTI application, were returned with remarks “receiver not at address”. Further, it was submitted that the reply sent in response to the RTI application was inadvertently sent at the incorrect address, hence, could not be timely delivered. However, on receipt of the return mail, they rectified the address and communicated the information to the appellant on 09.02.2024. The CIC observed that the respondent initially replied on 14.12.2023 but the same was not delivered timely to the appellant due to incorrect address. The CIC accepted the clarification provided by the PIO that the delay in response to the RTI application was inadvertent and had occurred on account of incorrect address being mentioned in the dispatch letter. Holding that due information has been furnished and the delay caused on the PIO’s part does not appear to be deliberate, the CIC disposed the appeal.

Comments

If the delay in reply by the PIO is unintentional and due to an inadvertent error, there is no penal liability as there is no malafide denial of information.
