Dissent over cabinet reshuffle: J&K CM Omar Abdullah under pressure from NC leaders

The recent cabinet expansion in Jammu and Kashmir has triggered a widespread dissent within the ruling National Conference (NC) party. With Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah facing a significant internal crisis about 18 to 20 disgruntled legislators recently held a closed-door meeting at MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone’s Srinagar residence to voice their frustration over being ignored for ministerial berths.

The aggrieved lawmakers have formed a committee led by MLA Nazir Gurezi to demand an immediate cabinet reshuffle, the removal of newly inducted ministers, and the dismissal of the Chief Minister's adviser, Nasir Sogami. While the NC leadership cited constitutional limits on the cabinet's size under the Union Territory setup, this mounting rebellion poses a major challenge to the stability of Abdullah's government.
