whispers in the corridors
Engineers India Limited (EIL), a leading engineering consultancy company, has marked a key milestone in India’s clean energy journey by successfully delivering project management services for the Durgapur - Kolkata section (132 km) of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, which has been laid as a part of ambitious Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) Project. The Durgapur–Kolkata section of the pipeline was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 18th July, 2025 at Durgapur, West Bengal, heralding a new era of sustainable energy access for industries and households in the state. The Urja Ganga pipeline network, comprising the Dobhi–Durgapur, Durgapur–Haldia, and Dhamra–Haldia pipelines, now extends over 1,030 km, consisting of 30", 24", 18" & 12" diameter pipelines. EIL, acting as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), played a pivotal role in ensuring timely and efficient execution of this challenging project. In addition to overcoming critical Right of Use (RoU) acquisition challenges, this landmark project required approx. 130 nos. of crossings through the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method including the crossing of the Roopnarayan River executed through HDD by Intersect Method of an approx. length of 2.8 km. The completion of this vital segment of the Urja Ganga pipeline reinforces EIL’s commitment to supporting India’s energy transition and infrastructure development goals. This is another achievement of EIL for the execution of pipeline projects in different terrains.
