The Education Department of NLC India Limited (NLCIL) successfully organized an innovative scientific event titled “Near Space Payload Launch – High Altitude Balloon (HAB) Mission” on 07 March 2026 at 10:00 AM at Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli. The program marked a significant step in promoting scientific curiosity and awareness of space technology among school students.

The event was inaugurated by Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director, NLC India Limited, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of Samir Swarup, Director (Human Resources), DVSN Murthy, Executive Director (Legal, CSR & GH) & President, CSC, NLCIL Schools, Representatives of recognised Trade Unions, Welfare Federations & Associations, Engineers’ Associations, school students and employees.

As part of the event, a High Altitude Balloon (HAB) carrying a specially designed Near Space Payload was successfully launched, witnessed by about 2000 students. The mission offered students a rare opportunity to witness a real-time scientific experiment and understand the principles of atmospheric science, payload systems, telemetry, and space technology.

Students from NLCIL schools participated enthusiastically and gained valuable first-hand exposure to the concept of near-space exploration and scientific data collection. The demonstration aimed to ignite curiosity among young learners and inspire them to explore the vast opportunities in the field of space science.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, said “Energy and knowledge are vital pillars for the Nation’s development. Nurturing young minds in the fields of science, innovation and space research is important. NLC School students are getting exposure to advanced scientific concepts and hands-on learning experiences. These students are bringing knowledge from near space to earth through the successful launch of the payload. I congratulate the Education Department for creating meaningful opportunities that enable students to directly engage with real-world scientific experiments. On the eve of the International Women’s Day, I specially appreciate the 25 girl students who actively participated in the mission with enthusiasm today.”
