Pranay Kumar Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, to have a key role as elected government takes charge?
.jpg)
Pranay Kumar Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, faces a defining phase as a newly elected government in Dhaka assumes power, opening a window after the strained Yunus interregnum. Top observers view his role as pivotal in navigating bilateral strains—border killings, push-ins, smuggling—and water-sharing disputes over Teesta and Padma rivers, as flagged in the BNP manifesto. Yet opportunities abound: Dhaka signals intent to bolster the Joint River Commission, pursue functional trade ties, and revive SAARC while eyeing ASEAN membership to diversify options. Verma’s diplomacy will be key to rebalancing sovereignty concerns with pragmatic cooperation, leveraging India’s stakes in Bangladesh’s stability amid shifting regional dynamics. His steady hand could reset ties strained by past summonses and controversies.

In a resounding affirmation of India’s aerial dominance, the Indian Air Force (IAF) unveiled plans for Exercise Vayushakti 2026, a massive firepower demonstration set to unfold over the arid sands of Pokhran Air to Ground Range in Jaisalmer on February 27. The curtain-raiser event, held in the capital, featured a detailed briefing followed by a press conference led by Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, who emphasised the IAF’s unwavering commitment to national security and self-reliance under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
This biennial spectacle, the largest since Operation Sindoor, will involve over 120 aircraft, including 77 frontline fighters like the Rafale, Tejas, Sukhoi-30MKI, MiG-29, Jaguar, and Mirage-2000, alongside 43 helicopters such as the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, Apache attack choppers, and heavy-lift Chinooks. Transport assets including C-130J, C-295, and C-17, plus remotely piloted aircraft (RPAs), will join the fray, showcasing full-spectrum operations across day, dusk, and night scenarios. Advanced weaponry, from Short Range Loitering Munitions (SRLM) to air defense systems like Akash, SpyDer, and Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS), will be deployed, with more than 277 munitions and over 11,000 kg of explosives expected to light up the desert sky.
A highlight will be the recreation of Operation Sindoor’s precision strikes, underscoring the IAF’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and its prowess in long-range targeting and multi-domain warfare. “The Rafale was a hero in Operation Sindoor, and we’re looking forward to inducting more next-generation fighters,” Air Marshal Kapoor stated, hinting at potential expansions in the multi-role fighter aircraft fleet. The exercise also spotlights humanitarian roles, with demonstrations of rapid airlifts and disaster relief evacuations, reinforcing the IAF’s dual mandate as a warfighter and lifesaver.
Guided by the motto “Achook, Abhedya aur Sateek” (Unerring, Impenetrable, and Precise), Vayushakti 2026 aims to reassure the nation of the IAF’s combat readiness amid evolving geopolitical challenges. As tensions simmer along borders, this display near the India-Pakistan frontier sends a clear message: India’s skies are guarded by unmatched skill and indigenous innovation. “LARGE” With echoes of past triumphs like the Balakot strikes, the event promises to be a thunderous testament to aerial supremacy, drawing global attention to India’s growing defence capabilities.

Ongoing discussions around the new Cadre Allocation Policy 2026 (effective from CSE 2026) highlight potential upgradations in cadre strength to address gaps, with North-East states like Assam-Meghalaya grouped in Group I for better equity. Predictions suggest this could lead to faster promotions for outsiders in NE cadres to balance insider-outsider ratios.
Emerging trends include decarbonisation via electrification (99% broad-gauge complete), AI/tech integration (e.g., 52 reforms in 52 weeks), and passenger-centric shifts like Vande Bharat/Amrit Bharat trains (164 VB, 30 AB services). Freight focus via new corridors aims for 29% share increase, with a 5,000 km metro network by 2047 in 100 cities.
No Joint Secretary level empanelment belonging to 2010 batch IAS officers has been made from Kerala cadre.

Discussions referenced the tripartite agreement for the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), a new autonomous body under Article 371(A). This initiative aims at balancing regional aspirations with national integrity through autonomy and development focus, potentially serving as a model for NE conflict resolution. Whispers suggest it could lead to new deputations of IAS/IPS officers to oversee implementation.
Deb Kumar Chakraborty, Member, DCC, will retire in July this year. He is an ITS officer.
Recent mentions highlight the Assam Rifles’ IAS coaching centre as a new initiative to groom aspirants from the North-East, bridging opportunity gaps and replacing “distance” with access. This could involve deputations of IFoS/IPS officers for training oversight.
In a high-level meeting, Director General of Border Security Force Praveen Kumar and Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal Sanjay Singhal met with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi. Predictions indicate defence exports could reach ₹50,000 crore by 2029, with private sector growth (e.g., Solar Industries for loitering munitions like Nagastra). The MoD’s Viksit Bharat@2047 vision predicts 70%+ self-reliance by 2026 through DRDO-private collaborations. Speculations were rife over upcoming rollouts like AMCA in 2026 and hypersonic missiles within 1-2 years.
14.2% rise to ₹557.27 billion, but scholars warn it masks slower university funding growth and pressures. Pivot to market-readiness, skilling; new “university townships” near industrial corridors. Whispers over shift to outcome-based autonomy, interdisciplinary research.
Shift from diesel to electric (near-total), safety emphasis (Rs 1.16 lakh crore spent, 84% utilization), and PPP for infrastructure (e.g., Lok Sabha briefing on February 9, 2026). Also, Bullet Train expansions to reduce travel times (e.g., Delhi-Varanasi to 3:50 hours), amid cost concerns (Mumbai-Ahmedabad escalations).

Lateral transfer/Transfer far from place of residence must be stopped at least for those who are sacrificing their career or promotion due to their family. Female staff should be posted near to their home. Upto Scale III officers are providing customer service sitting front, so transfer to another linguistic region upto Scale III should be stopped.

I am also working in a psb , my first posting was 360km away from my native after 6 years of struggle I got home place transfer. Now only 2.5 years completed in my native, in april again they will transfer me to other circle ie., minimum 500 km away from my native place. My son is only 2 years old no one is there for taking care of my son. Nowadays it is very very dangerous to trust care takers, so government will take proper decision on transfer policy to lady officers in psbs.

Banks transfer policy
Transfer policy in UCO Bank is very unfair, every year they are bringing transfer policy, but human interference in the policy is very much. Those who actually deserves the transfer to their home state/zone are not getting transferred. Transfer policy/process should be automatic and should not be driven by the excessive human interference. In UCO bank employees who have completed two years of maximum service in North East India are not getting transferred to their home zone despite their repeated effort to apply for such transfer.

Marks scored in examination when result is withheld
The appellant sought information about the marks scored by him in the examination conducted for the Sub-inspector in Delhi Police, CAPFs and Assistant Sub-inspector in CISF Examination. The information was denied and on query by the CIC, the respondent submitted that it was not declared by the Appellant in his RTI Application that his result was withheld, which is why such a reply was provided to him. The appellant argued that since information related to one of the candidates has been provided, he is also entitled to access the information related to him now since the OA stands disposed of. The appellant submitted that the averred OA infructuous and the interim order that the PIO is relying upon to withhold the information of the candidates in a sealed cover was no longer stipulated to be in operation whilst passing the final order. The averred final order stipulates that all pending MA(s) are also disposed of with another connected OA being described as infructuous and this order significantly predates the date of filing of the RTI Application. Additionally, the PIO has not complied with the averred FAA’s order which was leaning in favor of the Appellant. The CIC directed the PIO to submit a written explanation to show cause as to why action should not be initiated in the matter under Section 20(1) of the RTI Act for failing to provide a proper reply to the RTI Application at the original instance as the queries of different nature i.e distinct from the mere marks and result of the Appellant were left unattended by providing an unwarranted cumulative reply. Further, the PIO was also directed to explain the prima-facie non-compliance of the FAA’s order within 15 days. The PIO was directed to provide a revised reply to the RTI Application incorporating the available information regarding the Appellant’s result and OMR sheet as sought for.
Comments
In many instances, it has been pointed out that the marks scored by an individual should be provided to him/her unless any of the exemption sections of the RTI Act, 2005 can be invoked to deny the information.
