In previous Bihar Vidhan Sabha polls, Yadav caste showed near-total loyalty to RJD-led Mahagathbandhan. The alliance is also maintaining and making sustained efforts to the party’s grassroots strength by relying on its most loyal and mobilized base, the Yadavs, an assertive caste bloc. But now the BJP has aggressively fielded MP Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav to counter Tejashwi Yadav, the proposed CM face of Mahagathbandhan. Dr Yadav – one of the star campaigners of the party - is now in heavy demand for campaigning in favour of NDA candidates in different parts of Bihar and on October 31, he was in Patna, campaigning in two Assembly segments. Now the voters are comparing Dr Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav. Dr Yadav’s family has no political lineage unlike Tejashwi Yadav. Also, Dr Yadav graduated from Vikram University, Ujjain with a BSc degree. He also pursued his academic interest and completed MA and LLB. He did not stop here and also studied Master of Business Administration and Doctorate of Philosophy. One more fact that is touching voters is, his family did not reside with him in Chief Minister’s bungalow. He is a gentle and down-to-earth politician. However, Tejashwi Yadav lacks all these qualities. So, for the electorate, it is also a battle of sorts for Dr Mohan Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.
Nitish Kumar: Longest serving Chief Minister but not contested Assembly polls in last 20 years

Nitish Kumar – who remains the state’s longest serving Chief Minister - hasn’t contested a Bihar Assembly election in decades. The Bihar CM, instead, chooses the Legislative Council route to join the state Assembly. The last time Nitish Kumar was part of the Bihar Assembly was in 1985, since then he has only contested the state Assembly election once in 1995 from Harnaut. However, he did not retain his seat as he chose to remain a Lok Sabha MP. Kumar contested three consecutive Bihar Assembly elections in 1977, 1980 and 1985, but managed to win only once, in 1985. He then shifted his focus to national politics, contesting six Lok Sabha elections - 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004. He won the Lok Sabha polls each time. In 2004, he contested Parliament elections from both Barh and Nalanda; although he lost in Barh, he secured a win in Nalanda. That election marked the last time Nitish Kumar personally entered the electoral fray.

IPS Puneet Gehlod is a 2017 Batch Officer of MP cadre and is currently posted as Superintendent of Police in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. The foundation of his mission is simple yet transformative: Policing with the people, for the people and by the people.
In Dewas, his approach has shifted policing from being reactive to proactive by building meaningful continuous engagement with the community.
Breaking, the perception that the police arrives only after a crime has occurred, SP Gehlod introduced the Police Chaupal initiative. Every evening, after the roll call at 5 PM, SHOs and ATPOs leave their police stations and go directly into villages and city wards, meeting people where they are.Even if there is no specific complaint, the dialogue continues. This direct presence during the crucial evening hours not only prevents disturbances like fights,alcohol-related issues and other conflicts but also builds trust.
But the Chaupal is not just about presence it follows a structured agenda:-
The first focus is CCTV penetration under Operation Trinetram meaning Third Eye. Dewas today stands among the leading districts of the state with over 9,000 cameras installed across nearly 1,000 villages worth ₹4 crore, largely mobilized through community motivation. Gehlod has made technology a positive tool and collective shield for its people.
The second major component is cyber awareness. Earlier, victims of cyber frauds often did not know how to respond or where to go. Through consistent awareness about the helpline 1930, reporting of cybercrime has increased nearly four times and swift action has ensured that ₹1.25 crore has been returned to citizens under Operation Cyber.
The third transformative initiative is Digital Police Mitra a network of 1,100+ WhatsApp groups connecting 22,000+ citizens across Dewas. This has become a real time intelligence and awareness system. Whether sharing emergency guidelines during critical situations, preventing harassment by mass-reporting objectionable online content or solving serious crimes, the community responds instantly. In one case, when a bank employee was robbed of ₹22 lakh, CCTV visuals shared in the group led to identification and arrest of all accused within just 2 hours and the entire ₹22 lakh was recovered
The network also enables preventive awareness. Recently, after a fatal road accident caused by a truck lacking reflective radium tape, the police quickly shared the incident across these groups emphasizing that radium strips costing only ₹5 can save lives. The message spread across the district overnight. “We are simply organizing and harnessing the public’s strength and capacity The network of citizens is already very strong” He shared
Alongside community policing, Gehlot has also emphasized timely justice for the victim. By digitally integrating police, hospitals, prosecution and courts, Dewas achieved fast investigation in 81% of cases, with 68% charge sheets filed reducing manpower waste and allowing the police to focus on core policing. This pilot project has streamlined processes under the new criminal laws and is now being replicated to other districts. “Previously, delays happened because the police, hospital, forensic labs, prosecution, and courts all worked on separate systems. Officers spent a lot of time physically carrying files and reports from one place to another” he explained
Operation Pavitra another initiative, strong action against habitual offenders has further restored public confidence. With ₹25 crore enforced in bonds and measurable reductions in crimes such as vehicle theft and knife violence has made everyday life safer.
With the evolving nature of crime such as cybercrime and increasing urbanization, IPS Gehlod is setting a benchmark for the most effective policing model- one that works with the community.

Massive Tri-services drills off Saurashtra/Arabian Sea, Kutch/Sir Creek, Jodhpur/Barmer/Jaisalmer. The tone and tenor of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi is significant that Operation Sindoor is “not over”.

A recent RTI has revealed that around 1600 employees of public sector banks have quit in the last two and a half years. Why people are leaving jobs in PSBs, is a matter of concern.

The surprise visits by Secretary of Finance M. Nagaraju to public sector banks have had a positive impact on consumer-facing objectives by highlighting critical gaps in customer service. These unannounced checks revealed long wait times, unsatisfactory behavior from officials, and how these banks lag behind private banks in customer interaction standards. Nagaraju's visits brought immediate attention to the need for improved courtesy and responsiveness at bank branches, urging staff to enhance their service attitudes. The visits also reinforced the importance of customer satisfaction, prompting banks to focus more on behavioral improvements, grievance redressal efficiency, and financial inclusion at the grassroots level. Overall, these surprise inspections have driven banks to prioritize customer experience and accountability more rigorously, leading to better service delivery outcomes for consumers.

For the first time in Himachal’s administrative history, the three highest positions in governance - the Chief Secretary (CS), the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, who is the Head of Forest Force (PCCF HoFF) - are all being held by officers with additional charge rather than regular appointments. According to the senior bureaucrats, this practice may not stand the test of law, if challenged. Following the retirement of former Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, the state government appointed Sanjay Gupta as Acting Chief Secretary on an interim basis. The DGP’s post, vacated by Dr. Atul Verma, has been held by Ashok Tiwari with additional charge for over five months, while Sanjay Sood continues to officiate as PCCF–HoFF since the retirement of Pawanesh Kumar.

Action taken for overstaying in government accommodation
Information about the policy and instructions regarding the allotment of Government accommodation (Residences, Covered Car Parks, Camp Offices) to the incumbent or Ex. Ministers of Cabinet/State/ Deputy or equivalent status, incumbent or Ex. Member of Parliament between May 1, 2001 and October 30, 2023 was sought by the appellant. Further information about who had overstayed in the Government accommodation, the penal rent collected and copy of notices served etc. was also sought. The PIO replied that the information sought in the instant RTI Application is voluminous as the Appellant is seeking information for 22 years which requires collection and collation of data and providing the same would divert the time and resources of the public authority as per the provisions of Section 7 (9) of the RTI Act. The CIC declined to intervene in the matter observing that a person holds a public office does not, per se, render all personal information subject to public disclosure. The CIC pointed out that public interest is different from public curiosity.
Comments
There has been a long standing discussion about defining the boundaries of Public Interest - Information which is of interest to the public and something which is in the public interest. It raises a pertinent question whether any amount which has been condoned for overstaying in government accommodation should be disclosed.
