whispers in the corridors

Appointment of new BJP Chief in UP likely to be delayed
Speculation continues over a possible delay in the appointment of the new UP BJP president. The party is weighing whether to announce the state unit chief before or after selecting its national president. Given the possibility of a Yogi cabinet reshuffle alongside organizational changes, the process may take more time. Since the monsoon session of Parliament begins in two weeks—when the national BJP president is expected to be named—UP’s decision could be deferred until after that, requiring further internal discussions.
Assam CM exposing Congress mercilessly
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma seems to be after the Congress. He is exposing the Congress brutally on all fronts. Recently he alleged that the Facebook account of the Assam Youth Congress is being run from Saudi Arabia. Congress could not deny his claim. Similarly, Sarma said, 'socialism' and 'secularism' are Western concepts, and these words should be struck off of the Constitution. An ex- Congressman, Sarma joined the BJP in 2019 and is the CM since 2021. Congress also seems to be helpless before the ex-partyman. Because his politics wiped out the Congress from the NE states and paved a solid platform for the BJP.

Verification of BPL status of RTI applicant
The appellant sought data on customer satisfaction ratings for SBI services from its inception to the current date and asked for the categorization of ratings by type of service and other related information. The PIO provided certain information and clarified before the CIC that data sought on certain points of the RTI application was not available in the desired format. The CIC upheld the order of the CIC. The CIC brought it to the notice of the respondent that in a series of matters filed by the same appellant against a different public authority i.e IDPL (File nos. CIC/IDPCL/A/2024/612395 and CIC/IDPCL/A/2024/604666) an order was passed to veracity of the appellant’s BPL status. The CIC advised the respondent to exercise due caution with respect to the future RTI application received from the appellant relying on his BPL status.
Comments
There is no specific section of the RTI Act, 2005 or rule which prescribes whether the verification of the BPL status should be done, if the PIO has doubts regarding the same. If there are any suspicions, the PIO could ask for the BPL certificate to verify the status of the RTI applicant.
