whispers in the corridors
Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) observed the 55th National Safety Month with great enthusiasm across its Head Office, New Delhi, and units at Gorakhpur, Barauni, and Sindri, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Dr S P Mohanty, reaffirming its commitment to building a safe, responsible, and resilient workplace.
The observance brought together employees at all levels through a blend of practical demonstrations, awareness activities, leadership engagements, and training programmes, reinforcing the message that safety is not merely a priority but a shared responsibility.
Key highlights included SCBA and CPR competitions, where participants demonstrated critical life-saving skills with speed and precision, alongside hands-on SCBA wearing exercises that strengthened emergency preparedness. A mock drill further showcased coordinated response mechanisms and adherence to established safety protocols.
Interactive activities such as extempore competitions, quiz and drawing contests encouraged both employees and young participants to express safety awareness creatively, promoting deeper understanding of themes like industrial safety, road safety, and use of PPE.
Leadership engagement remained central throughout the month, with Safety/HSE Walks and Safety Committee interactions enabling on-ground assessment, meaningful dialogue, and reinforcement of accountability. A dedicated Leadership and Safety Excellence training programme further enhanced perspectives on safety management, leadership responsibility, and continuous improvement.
Extending the safety message beyond the workplace, family engagement initiatives witnessed enthusiastic participation, highlighting that safety is a shared value both at work and at home. Strengthening this commitment, a Pocket Safety Manual was also introduced, ensuring quick and easy access to critical safety information for employees.
Through these diverse initiatives, HURL successfully fostered awareness, preparedness, and a culture of continuous improvement, embedding safety deeply into its organizational ethos.
The observance stands as a strong testament to HURL’s belief that “Safety is not just a priority, it is a way of life.”
